According to Woj, Boston plans to negotiate a buy out with Prince if he's not traded by the deadline. Two issues with this:
1) there's virtually no chance of trading him now, because why not just wait until he's bought out to get him?
2) I'll be severely ticked off if he goes to the Clips and helps them when they're clearly in trouble right now. Hopefully Danny has a "wink wink" deal with Prince that he'll buy him out only on the condition that he doesn't go to the Clippers.

But seriously, I don't like just buying him out.

Because a trade guarantees you get Prince, whereas the buyout allows him to choose.

If I'm Portland and can't/don't want to meet the price tags for Afflalo or Chandler, locking in Prince would be a smart move. Or else they risk him walking to a Western conference rival.

We'll see.  That's not being sourced form Ainge, that's for sure.

From what I've read, his larger-sized contract makes a potential trade very hard to see. I'll give you that it would create certainty in getting him, but what team would give up anything significant for three months of Prince? I guess it depends on what Ainge considers an acceptable price for him. Btw, I'd be psyched for him to go to Portland or anywhere other than LAC. Hope he gets a chance at another ring.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.

I think the thought of a buyout helps get trade talks going and will allow Anige to get other GMs on the phone for a bigger deal. With our trade exemptions, cap space, picks we can go so many ways. This may be a big opportunity for us.

The Afflalo/Chandler/Dragic dominos needs to fall first. The losers of these will look Prince way.

I was very, very impressed with Prince in the games he has played for us. I thought he was much more washed out. Very good defense, savvy on offense. Still a very valuable player for a contender.

I wish we had him in the big 3 era.

I see no reason to give Prince away.

He helps the team WIN games ... That's a good thing.  ;)

Prince is a locker room leader and glue for this team .

There needs to be several GOOD. Vets on the team .....or it will be a pile of dog turds like Philly.

Keeping a few vets ...especially good ones that can play ......show floor leadership and keep the team calm is a GOOD thing.

Unless Danny gets a first round pick for him ....I see no reason to force him away.....Prince has shown his presence is worth more than just a low ball offer .

It's obvious he makes the team better and more fun to watch ...not painful..

Danny WANTS to win ,  the team wants to win,  paying fans want wins .......he entertains well.

Prince is worth his contract playing out .

I hope he stays.

JPotter,

Good points but maybe missing the playoffs is more important then the clips falling to the 18-20 pick range.

This should free up some time for Young and hopefully we end up with that lottery pick.

I'd also like him to stay, but I get the feeling he wants to compete now and will insist on a BO. I understand him.

He can insist all he wants, the Cs don't have to accommodate him. I'd rather pay him to sit at home than buy him out and have him go help the Clippers.

We are like 10 games under .500.  I think it's way more likely we buy out bass, Thornton and prince. Makes more sense to go in that direction than make a push for the 8th seed. Danny has essentially admitted that he doesn't want to make the playoffs if they don't have a real shot at contending

I wouldn't. That's a great way to get a black mark across the league with players and agents.

Also if you Ainge has the chance to save a million in negotiations with Prince and he doesn't then the owners won't be happy.

A possible reason for the buyout discussions may be Prince's doing.  Perhaps, his hip injury may be worse than has been reported and that going to a contender this year could be his final chance at another ring.  Still, I'd prefer he stay in Boston.
