Male/female if you make bad calls your going to get criticized, deal with it.
Heck if you make good calls you'll get criticized. Especially by a player like CP3 who hunts bad calls like a mission when his team is struggling.

I'm not seeing much outrage/fire?

Oh it's there..it's all they were talking about last night on social media. I'm sure someone on ESPN will make a topic of it on their show or write a think piece.

I watched the game last night, and thought some of those calls were atrocious.  It's impossible to know what was said at the court level, but it just seemed like some discretion would have been in order.

I think that a lot of young professionals over-compensate and try to act "tough" when they're new to a job.  In my own field, I've seen this with both men and women, but perhaps particularly so with new female criminal attorneys.  It's still a fairly male-dominated field, where there is no doubt patronizing going on by some of the male attorneys, and I see some of the younger female attorneys develop a less congenial personality than some of their male counterparts.  There's probably some of my own sexist observations in that anecdote, but I wonder if something similar happens with new female NBA refs?  They're in a male-dominated field, and they're given extra scrutiny because of their gender.  They're on a national stage, where their very presence makes them "different".  Wouldn't it be natural for them to act a little tougher?

Of course, that's all dime store psychology, and I haven't seen any evidence that this ref calls any more techs than normal.  She seemed a bit out of line last night, but it could be an isolated situation.  Or, maybe the Clippers are just jerks.

I agree with your reasoning. I also think they had an issue with her in a previous game.

This issue is so overblown & asinine.  It should be a non-story.  More faux outrage from some of the media outlets (since DeflateGate is so last week).

We all learned to use pronouns in grammar school, right?  "He", 'she", "him", "her" etc...  What the heck else was he supposed to use?

The dumbest part of this was in a story I read on Yahoo where they suggested that part of the sexism could be that he used the term "she".

Seriously?  How else is he supposed to refer to her?  Does CP3 not call male refs "he" when he refers to them?
The media haven't exactly done themselves any favors with the coverage of recent events in the sports world.

i think some of you guys are missing the point.
it's not like he said "she did a terrible job tonight."
no, he said
"this might not be for her."

he's suggesting she shouldn't be an official at all, which is fairly unusual, and has as condescending tone to it.
i've seen bennett salvatore, scott foster, and many other god-awful refs call terrible games and i haven't seen a player word their criticism quite that way, i think it was an ill-advised little jab by CP3 and now he's drawn attention to himself.
it's not the end of the world, but i think it's naive to say there wasn't a little extra meaning behind it, he was angry and he took a shot at her.

CP3 devotes a lot of energy on the court to deceiving the referees. Everyone knows that. Pair that with openly disrespecting them and the benefit of the doubt owed to him is less than zero.

I don't know if I see the sexism, but disrespect is disrespect. I hope she keeps him on a tight leash next time and doesn't take any crap.

I get that it was condescending.  We don't know if that's because this ref is female, or a rookie, or just because CP3 thinks that he's above the officials.

What I object to is the thought that the pronouns "she" or "her" used in relation to a female ref are sexist.  That's just bonkers.

I like this ref. Cp3 should just shut up and play. Many players should stop having a spazz attack on like every play.

True.

There's also the fact that so many people are hypersensitive these days, almost as though they're looking to be offended. Every incident involving a black person brings accusations of racism, every incident involving a female brings accusations of sexism, etc. Not that there isn't racism and sexism in the world, but many people jump to those conclusions and ignore actual evidence.

I agree. Seems to be a lot of players who think they're fouled on every play that doesn't work out for them.

I'll also go on record with my belief that the Clippers, as currently constructed, will never win a title. Jordan is a great defensive player but is mostly a liability on offense, especially at the ends of close games; and despite how good Griffin and Paul are, they seem to lack that certain something that all champions have.

TP - this is a good explanation of what happened. It's certainly not a huge deal and the media shouldn't run with this calling CP3 sexist, or whatever; however, it is fairly rare to say a ref just isn't cut out for their job. Saying this about a female ref is unsurprisingly bringing some backfire.

Well, he showed he was racist when he wanted to fire vinnie (who led the team to their best record ever) and hire, specifically, a black coach

And now it seems he's also sexist

(Although he's probably neither, and just a big time complainer/whiner)

But thats none of my business
