Quote
"The tech that I get right there was ridiculous. I don't care what nobody says, I don't care what she says; that's terrible. There's no way that can be a tech. We try to get the ball out fast every time down the court, and when we did that, she said, 'Uh-uh.' I said, 'Why, uh-uh?' And she gave me a tech.

"That's ridiculous. If that's the case, this might not be for her."

That's the quote that has people talking. Do you think his quote had a misogynistic tone or is the media just hyping it up?

Who cares. Non-issue. No story here.

Edit: Not "Who cares" in reference to you posting this. Who cares as in the media trying to make something out of nothing. Sorry if that came across snarky towards your post.

Well we all know Chris Paul would never have complained about a male ref, so...

I personally think that they're playing on the word "she". He should get fined for criticizing a ref (since that's the rule),but I don't think he personally meant it against her being a woman. He probably shouldn't have made that statement though.

I think it's just the media hyping an issue that isn't there.  CP3 would have complained about the same thing if it was a male ref.

The dumbest part of this was in a story I read on Yahoo where they suggested that part of the sexism could be that he used the term "she".

Seriously?  How else is he supposed to refer to her?  Does CP3 not call male refs "he" when he refers to them?

I think it's a reach to make gender a factor based on just what I read here. Replace 'she' with 'he' and I could see the same exact comments coming out.

I hate it when the refs stop players from inbounding the ball quickly and allow defenses to get back and set up. Ruins tempo / flow of games.

Yeah, I'd say it has a patronizing tone that probably couldn't be found in what he's said about male refs. Some chastisement for greater awareness is probably in order. Nothing major.

I watched the game last night, and thought some of those calls were atrocious.  It's impossible to know what was said at the court level, but it just seemed like some discretion would have been in order.

I think that a lot of young professionals over-compensate and try to act "tough" when they're new to a job.  In my own field, I've seen this with both men and women, but perhaps particularly so with new female criminal attorneys.  It's still a fairly male-dominated field, where there is no doubt patronizing going on by some of the male attorneys, and I see some of the younger female attorneys develop a less congenial personality than some of their male counterparts.  There's probably some of my own sexist observations in that anecdote, but I wonder if something similar happens with new female NBA refs?  They're in a male-dominated field, and they're given extra scrutiny because of their gender.  They're on a national stage, where their very presence makes them "different".  Wouldn't it be natural for them to act a little tougher?

Of course, that's all dime store psychology, and I haven't seen any evidence that this ref calls any more techs than normal.  She seemed a bit out of line last night, but it could be an isolated situation.  Or, maybe the Clippers are just jerks.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Male/female if you make bad calls your going to get criticized, deal with it.
