Pete Carroll's phone before the decisive play:

Dumbest play call in the history of football.

Seriously, how do you not give the ball to your all-world running back on the 1 yd line, knowing you still have 1 timeout left. I just cannot fathom it.

You should read Carroll's twisted explanation:

Quote
Carroll's explanation: He saw the Patriots bring in a formation with eight big guys and three cornerbacks and didn't think Lynch, who tied for the league lead with 13 touchdowns rushing this season, would be able to bull it in against that defense. Plus, if the quick shot in the end zone didn't work out, they were still saving the timeout for after third down, in case Lynch was unable to get into the end zone.

"It's not a great matchup for us to run the football, so we were going to throw the ball, really to waste a play," Carroll said. "If we score, we do, if we don't, we'll run it in on third or fourth down."

Seriously?  Three shots at the end zone, and you decide to "waste" a play?  And you do it not by running a fade or an out, but instead running a slant right at the line of scrimmage in a scrum of defenders?

Much more entertaining game than last year.

Pete Carroll's phone before the decisive play:

Hahahaha, that's pretty funny.
But i thought texting was against NFL Rules? **textgate!!!***

OTOH, Malcolm Butler said he'd seen film of the Seahawks running that type of 2WR pick play in the endzone before. So, while it was bizarre to call that play to begin with, kudos really really goes to Butler for reading it correctly, and then executing on it.

The new scandal ---
The Patriots cheated by leaving Edelman in the game with concussion symptoms.

Both him and Gronk appeared to suffer concussions in the fourth. They seemed pretty woozy out there for a bit.

So last night really happened?  It wasn't a dream?

Absolutely incredible.  Talk about the ultimate roller-coaster of emotion really starting with the Pats being down 10 in the 4th quarter.  Brady getting it done when the team needed him most.  Pats capitalize on the most idiotic play call in Super Bowl history.  Butler jumping the route and making the catch of his life.

After all the "guilty until proven innocent" stuff that was flying around the past two weeks in the media, with coworkers, even on this board, it's very satisfying to savor this victory and know there are plenty of people out there stewing on the fact the Patriots won.   The first one against the Rams was special but this one is about as close to that feeling as you can get.

I think both Patriots fans and Seahawks fans are waking up this morning with that same thought in their head, though maybe not "dream" but "nightmare" in the latter case. :)

I read that. It doesn't make any sense. You didn't want to run against the goal line package, you really thought that the Pats will sub that out on 3rd and 4th down? Bah.

Also, if you're going to throw, why throw in traffic? Seems risky, and you got burned. By a fifth-string CB, no less (#DoYourJob).

It's funny, had the Patriots lost and they were the ones who started that brawl at the end, the media would be EATING THEM ALIVE.

However, watching the morning after coverage today, it's barely a blip on the radar. Gotta love the double standards the Patriots face.

Watching the replay of the Butler INT, I think Belichick was going to let SEA score there if they ran the ball.

Watch Hightower right before the snap on the play.  He backpedals in the endzone.  Why would an inside LB do that on the goal line?
