I like Thorton.  He's a good reliable bench.  Why do we need to trade every bench player we have?

Our whole team is bench players.

It seems like where there is smoke there's fire with all of these deals. Rondo rumors started and he was traded quickly after. Green rumors started up and he was traded quick. Nelson wanted more playing time and was traded a week later. Wright was traded after a few games. Seems like once someone's name is out there it's only a matter of time. Except for Bass...which is odd.

That'd be worse than the Mosgov trade.

no one is trading for thorton . He will be bought out
I agree... posts like this make me think Spears is in Ainge's pocket.

Perhaps teams are interested in Thornton... in that they will be willing to sign him after he's bought out.  Can't imagine anyone trading for him.

Just spilling over from the other thread...

I'd be more inclined to trade for MCW than I would for Isaiah Thomas.  Thomas is too small to be a legitimate starter in this league.   The thing I like about playing Turner + Smart or Smart + MCW or Turner + Bradley is that there's enough of a size difference there that the smaller guy can cover the PG's and the bigger guy can over the SGs.  Turner is 6'7.  MCW is 6'6.  Those guys are big enough to cover SG's so you can pair them with a smaller guard regardless of who handles the ball primarily.  Rondo + Bradley always bugged me.  Both were too small.  Thomas + anybody is too small.

Ughh, so we get one first for Rondo, but are going to give up two firsts for Thomas? I am not against him or MCW coming here, but PGs are not a commodity right now - I'd at least want a good deal on one.

How about:

Thornton, Turner, 2nd rounder

<=>

Porter, Blair, Gooden (expiring), TPE ($3.2M)

Get's us a TPE and Porter on his rookie deal. Saves us $1M on the cap next year for Turner => Blair.

Bass+Thornton to New Orleans (home state)
Eric Gordon+2017 first round pick to Boston

Why for Pelicans: they get better production from Bass+Thornton, they get rid of one year of Gordon's terrible salary and get the flexibility to bring someone to play with their Superstar

Why for Celtics: Send Bass (and Thornton) to a winning team, make Clipper's life miserable, and get a future pick.

About Gordon's salary, he would expire at the same time Wallace will, making 24M combined to use at the 2016 trade deadline, or to let go off the books.

We need time to develop the kids, Gordon can barely stay healthy, so he won't hurt the tank this season.

I'd want a little more in that deal, the first would basically be for taking on Gordon, I would want 2 seconds, one for Bass and one for Thornton (at least)
I'm bitter.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Portland has the contracts to do something for Bass or Thornton.  Do they have the motivation though?

It is still early in the process before the trade dealine. Some contender may lose a role player to injury and we can then get something. Thomton can win a playoff game with a hot night. Like Nate did for us years ago.

I have read numerous reports that Ainge is not looking to take on salary folks.  He wants expiring this year.

Depending on the picks, I'd do it.  Thornton, the Clippers pick, and a 2nd rounder (not a 76ers).

This is what I thought Spears' tweet meant. That teams had interest in Thornton as a buyout candidate.

Since Thornton is already an expiring I think the only way we move him is for another expiring and a pick or an interesting long term prospect. In other words I expect him to be bought out after the deadline.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't think we should go for PG until we are sure Smart cannot play the position. I do like Thomas but let Smart play.
