For everyone acting as though a basketball player's only desire in life should be to play professional basketball:

You know what, on second thought, I am happy we never traded for this idiot.

I've heard and read some bad thing about Sanders.

Good riddance!!

Stunning?  Not at all.  Not surprising in the least.  He has always been a moron.  I bet we still have posters who think he is our answer as a "rim protector."

I don't think he's a 'moron'. I think he likely has some psychiatric issue that he has been self medicating with recreational drugs for as someone else alluded to.

That's certainly one of the more, um, interesting self-references in the third person by an athlete that I've seen.

In this thread, a bunch of people with a total inability to ever play basketball at an NBA level denigrate someone who has the ability to do so and has decided not to.

Adorable.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Depends on what he decides to do. If he decides to be an EMT or something because he just loves that then great. If he wants to just go get high and couch surf ala Ricky Williams then that's a whole nother deal. I think it's great Ricky found Yoga or whatever and came back to the game and retired on his own terms, and I hope something like that happens here.

Then we should wait for him to explain what he wants to do before arrogantly and ignorantly assuming he's an idiot if he doesn't live his life to our standards.

Also, what's wrong with getting high and couch surfing?   :P

Doesn't that make perfect sense though? Most of us here are frustrated outsider dorks who can't fathom someone having this opportunity and being discontent with their job. I'll echo others that believe he's seriously not right mentally. I can't understand how someone could pass up the chance to start in the NBA for 8 figures a year and be of sound mind.

Well this happens from time to time.  I remember a Dolphins running back who sorta quit.  Several race car driver just walked off .

I takes all types of people to make the world go around I guess.

Sanders always seem to have a strange vib going on.  His whole person off the court seemed unusual.  He is kinda weird .

There maybe more to his story than we even know.   Stuff or changes in his life that may be so,emotional he can't deal with the public pressures of NBA and the media that comes with it.

He maybe in or require heavy meds to,function from day to day ...something most of us thankfully don't need .

I never ever said he couldn't play the game.   He had the gifts .

But , I always thought he was brain damaged , using heavy, abused,  something about him was no normal.

This just confirms it.  I m glade DA was cautious about him ...same as that guy Houston took that was not getting on an airplane.

Hope he can stay out of jail.

I will agree it's arrogant and ignorant to assume he's an idiot, but you're sorta being naive if you think this isn't a very unusual situation that may easily point to way bigger issues.

As opposed to staying productive for the sole sake of doing something instead of of doing nothing? This is going to get very silly very quickly, I think.

I will never doubt anyone's ability to get sick of their job*. Regardless of the gig, regardless of the situation, gainful employment always has the capability to be a real drag. Is it any coincidence, perhaps, that we're hearing about this on a Monday?

*Doubly so if that job involves the Milwaukee Bucks**

Of course it's an unusual situation.  However, all I know is that Sanders is considering retiring from basketball.  I'm not going to make any assumptions about his mental health.  It's not exactly unprecedented for someone to step away from guaranteed fame and wealth if they're not enjoying the means.  See: Ma$e, Peter Ostrum, Mara Wilson, Barry Sanders.
