Larry Sanders to quit basketball?

Stunning?  Not at all.  Not surprising in the least.  He has always been a moron.  I bet we still have posters who think he is our answer as a "rim protector."

Just because he doesn't want to play basketball doesn't make him a moron.  This is a free country.

The most hopeful way to look at this is that he realizes that the intensity (stress; lifestyle...) of the NBA is making him unhappy and he has the self-understanding that he is better off moving in a different direction.

I think this is probably more common than we realize.  I think there could be many athletes who somewhere along the way become ovewhelmed by the stress of the spotlight.  Some probably engage in unhealthy behaviors, but perhaps some just make the choice for themselves to not pursue the life of a pro athlete.   It doesn't make a person an idiot, a moron, or mentally ill to make the decision that the life of a professional athlete is not for right for them.   

Unfortunately, the pressure to meet everyone's idealized expectations (or one's own idealized expectations) is probably a factor that pushes some to stay with it when maybe they shouldn't.  It shouldn't necessarily be considered a failure.    Note that some intense competitiors like Larry, MJ, Kobe, etc, often have their own inner demons (perfectionism; ultra-competitivenss; gambling; narcisism....) that aren't exactly healthy or ideal.

It's probably true that Sanders has some inner challenges that he's struggled with, but this move is not necessarily one that indicates lack of intelligence, weakness, substance use or mental health issues.  It may be all of the above, but hopefully it's just a guy making the right choice for himself and hopefully he's doing so with a good plan for a good life.

I would love it if L Sanders would be a cab driver. Once he could have a real job he could come running back the way Cowens did. I wonder if Cowens started his shift at 5:30 am or ended it around 3am. I wonder how much money he made doing that.

  I don't buy that he just doesn't want to play basketball anymore.

  Theirs definitely something involved that we don't know,  but that "something" may make pursuing  Sander not worth it and he may even be untradable.

 More info will come out, the Agent has already call these rumors untrue.
