I love Smart at the two.

He can roam a little bit more on defense, and he doesn't have to handle the ball as much.

And his three point shot looked really good today....a lot of arc.

Hey, I have an idea! We should pair him with an all-star, veteran point guard to make his life easier and teach him the ropes.

Sorry, Rondo is no longer an allstar.

Hasn't been for years.

I was talking about Jameer Nelson (in 2009), but then I watched the game and looked at 2015 Jameer "Pudge" Nelson. What's the motivatoional saying? New Year, New Jameer?

Then Smart had better be a fast learner, 'cause he's probably only got about six weeks with Nelson.

ok so i need a little more explanation of why this was a great game for him.  I didnt realize we played so early today and I didnt dvr the game.

I checked the boxscore and noticed he had 11 points, but 9 out of 11 came off of three pointers.  I got frustrated until i read this post, I was assuming he was just taking spot up 3's.   I dont understand why he hasnt been trying to drive to basket more and get to the free throw line.
i too was a bit late, but watched the final 1.5 quarters. aside from stats i saw a player who healthy. his defense was classic (if such a thing is possible for a rookie) smart defense. fought over picks, bodied up, all the stuff we love.

on offense his shot was falling and his form was good. he tends to "lean back" when his shooting is off. today he looked good. and by the way, simply implying that 9 points do not "count" because they went in on three's doesnt seem very compelling.  :)

at this stage, i can wait for smart's aggressive drives to the basket. he has played in a total of 15 nba games in his life. i can be a tad more patient.

all in all, it is the sort of developmental game you hope smart will show at this stage of his career. good stuff!

oh, and lots of posters will also point to the dust up with cousins. prior to the throw down by cousins, smart put a great box out on him.

thanks for the info, TP.

I didnt mean to discount his 9 points by 3 pointer, it's just that Im looking for some promise that this guy can be a go to scorer down the road, not a 3 and D guard off the bench.  It's not my intention to try and minimize him to that right away, its just that Ive heard his thing in college was driving to the basket.  He hasnt been doing that here really at all, and Im wondering if someones telling him not to do it, or if he feels like he cant.
ok, thanks for explaining. it did seem odd since you are usually a really good poster.

anyway, while i can be patient for the drives to the basket by smart, it does surprise me he doesnt do it more since he was good at it in college. his strength makes him a virtual bowling ball hurtling towards the basket and woe to those who set themselves up as pins.

maybe he realizes he needs to open up space by developing his outside shot first? maybe CBS has told him to learn to shot? i dont know, but i have faith in him so far.

im sure he'll come around, youre just a much more patient person than I am, and rightfully so
Greg

Haven't watched the game yet but a couple thoughts re Kelly walking away form Cousins:

1. Isn't he averaging like 19 & 7 over the last 5-6 games? A couple more rebounds and points and you're talking all star numbers. Just keep doing that Kelly...

2. Probably not Kelly's game - to be the enforcer. Would be nice for Sully to play that role on our team and/or another big body we bring in here over the next few seasons.

3. Smart is an enforcer - it doesn't really have to do with size as much as mentality. That being said, I'd like to see us get a real bruiser up front and also see Sully step into that role.

And I don't mean whacking people - just being the guy who steps forward on behalf of Smart or Olynyk and has a conversation with Cousins on a play like that.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

they talked about a physical practice, well it worked.Sullinger's big body paid dividends today and he was shooting well.Apologies accepted by those critics last year, give him some more time and he could really surprise some of his detractors. As to smart that is the way to lead finally a player that boxes out hard, also opposing players are going to feel that guy every time they set a screen.Smart is just trying to survive all he has to learn being a point guard,i don't think he finds the time is right to experiment going to hoop or he would.A question ,turner seems to get stripped in the paint quite a bit and his  reverse pivot move also seems suspect.Although he is a vet,i think he will benefit from brad and coaching staff, there are time he telegraphs or players know what he is going to do next.KO will get stronger but he has played more physical lately,Brandan WRIGHT 3-4 in 8min.....he does what he does

Am I'm depressed that during Smart/Cousins fight/yelling,the only people who rushed to stop the escalation were the people who just got here and not Sully or KO/Turner/etc? Sad.

23 fouls committed by the Celtics. I like it.

I wish they would go back to the NO LAYUPS policy.
