Sorry to change the topic, but is Cousins a jackass or what!

Thats all he does is complain, ****, pout, argue. When things aren't going his way he derails his own team.

He'll never be winner.
He is. Anyone see when Cousins chucked Olynyk in the first half? Scared KO just kept walking and never looked back at Cousins. I think unfortunately for Olynyk that a lot of guys are going to test him. I also remember Garnett tomahawking KO's arm several times. I kind of don't blame KO for not responding to Cousins since he's a complete mental case, but I wish he would show a little push back and hold his ground a little.

Smart reminds me a lot of Ron Artest in his early days. The physical strength, excellent hands and elite lateral quickness. Also the lack of explosive quickness and leaping ability on offense. Relying more on bullying opponent on drives than beating them with quickness and playing mostly below the rim on forays to the basket.
TP for comparison. I would add great anticipation on defense.

ok so i need a little more explanation of why this was a great game for him.  I didnt realize we played so early today and I didnt dvr the game.

I checked the boxscore and noticed he had 11 points, but 9 out of 11 came off of three pointers.  I got frustrated until i read this post, I was assuming he was just taking spot up 3's.   I dont understand why he hasnt been trying to drive to basket more and get to the free throw line.
i too was a bit late, but watched the final 1.5 quarters. aside from stats i saw a player who healthy. his defense was classic (if such a thing is possible for a rookie) smart defense. fought over picks, bodied up, all the stuff we love.

on offense his shot was falling and his form was good. he tends to "lean back" when his shooting is off. today he looked good. and by the way, simply implying that 9 points do not "count" because they went in on three's doesnt seem very compelling.  :)

at this stage, i can wait for smart's aggressive drives to the basket. he has played in a total of 15 nba games in his life. i can be a tad more patient.

all in all, it is the sort of developmental game you hope smart will show at this stage of his career. good stuff!

oh, and lots of posters will also point to the dust up with cousins. prior to the throw down by cousins, smart put a great box out on him.

thanks for the info, TP.

I didnt mean to discount his 9 points by 3 pointer, it's just that Im looking for some promise that this guy can be a go to scorer down the road, not a 3 and D guard off the bench.  It's not my intention to try and minimize him to that right away, its just that Ive heard his thing in college was driving to the basket.  He hasnt been doing that here really at all, and Im wondering if someones telling him not to do it, or if he feels like he cant.

Reacting to Cousin's treatment of KO is exactly what he wants. I would much rather see KO drain a 3 next time down the court and right in front of Cousins. I also liked what I saw out of Smart after Cousin threw him to the ground. On the highlights it looked like he wasn't baited into overreacting to Cousins. Pushing and shoving is all really for naught, if you want to show them something make an excellent play like Smart did stripping the ball. That's the best way to fight back against idiots.

He had a nice pull up jumper off the dribble. Mid-range. It looked very comfortable and natural for him. I'm guessing this is what you are looking or hoping to find out. Unfortunately he never attempted to break down his man after that. But Stevens had him mostly in the corner on offense so he was limited.

This young 20 yr old is going to be a player.  For now, he'll be graded like a finished product game after game until about 4-5 years down the road, when people finally realize what he is and what he's become.

Well I wouldn't want him to throw down or push him back. He'd prob get a new face from Cousins. But he can stand right up to him and jaw at him or get him back on another play.

Yeah, I sometimes see Kelly get pushed, and bumped on purpose with the attempt to intimidate him, he's going have to step up or it will get out of hand.
Smart on the other hand will face to such tests. Smart was ready to go.

The 23 point game vs Washington was better.

I second that

that game he was playing out of his mind! Boxing out Nene (or was it Gortat), those offensive rebounds, the fire after he hit that 3...

I love Smart at the two.

He can roam a little bit more on defense, and he doesn't have to handle the ball as much.

And his three point shot looked really good today....a lot of arc.

Thanks.  yeah stuff like that is what I want to see more of.

I guess I just get frustrated with seeing him wander over to the corner so much during the games.  It reminds me of Kedrick Brown in his first year or two.  I know Marcus is a lot more offensively polished than kedrick was, but I just remember being so frustrated watching kedrick come down the court on offense and go right to the corner and just put his hands on his knees.

I know we cant force the whole offense to revolve around marcus, I just wish Brad would do more to try and get him involved, comfortable, and into a rhythm

ok, thanks for explaining. it did seem odd since you are usually a really good poster.

anyway, while i can be patient for the drives to the basket by smart, it does surprise me he doesnt do it more since he was good at it in college. his strength makes him a virtual bowling ball hurtling towards the basket and woe to those who set themselves up as pins.

maybe he realizes he needs to open up space by developing his outside shot first? maybe CBS has told him to learn to shot? i dont know, but i have faith in him so far.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Hey, I have an idea! We should pair him with an all-star, veteran point guard to make his life easier and teach him the ropes.

Sorry, Rondo is no longer an allstar.

Hasn't been for years.

I was talking about Jameer Nelson (in 2009)

*allow sarcasm to sink in, then shake it off and act serious*

But then I watched the game and looked at 2015 Jameer "Pudge" Nelson. What's the motivatoional saying? New Year, New Jameer?
