why would phx trade thomas for rondo, that would make him 3rd best pg on that team?

I cant see a Rondo to phoenix trade happening but I could see a 3 team deal involving Thomas and Rondo. The familiarity of the front offices makes this even more possible.
Just for fun
Boston - Thomas, Randle
Phoenix - Lin
LAL - Rondo

Phoenix gets mugged in a bad way here. If they're gonna take a PG for IT why not just take the better one between Rondo/Lin?

Because their primary goal is getting out from under Thomas' contract, and not paying the extra it would cost in picks and prospects for a guy they'd expect to walk at the end of the year?  Not my trade idea, but that's my guess.  I think the flaw in reasoning here is that phoenix wants a PF at all tho.

Bass, Thornton, Wallace will be attempted. Be nice to see Bass play on a team that could use him, Thornton's one and done regardless, and Wallace is still a year away, though he may end up staying so the Cs make the minimum cap level next year.

Unless DA get's value back, he''ll ride it out and see if Rondo improves once he's past the 2 year anniversary of the ACL. Think Green opts out with his 19 PPG and gets more money elsewhere.
Team's going to be radically difference whether they both stay or not. Boston effectively has 7 first rounders in the next 2 years.  2 of their own, LAC, BKN, CLE and 2 #31 picks from the Sixers, which are better than late first rounders. Cs are going to be drowning in youth with 4 other 2nd rounders and probably stashing talent overseas. Will have a lot of cap too.

I checked Woj's twitter and I blindly clicked on a link about the Celtics, which lead me to this story:

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/24895235/evan-turner-on-boos-i-dont-want-to-sound-super-weird-but-jesus-was-hated-too

Evan Turner on boos: 'I don't want to sound super weird, but Jesus was hated too'.  Note that this was about the 76ers fans and not Cs fans booing him

My emotions regarding Turner are a roller coaster ride, but I've got to admit this has me way up on him.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Steve Kyler from basketball insiders also jumped into the rumor mill

Celtics, Pistons, Suns, Timberwolves, Hornets - are seller in this market. Pacers, Nets, Nuggets and Rockets buyers...

Surprised to see that the Nets and Nuggets are buyers.

See how many picks the Pacers will give for Rondo. That can only help our draft position which is enough of a return regardless. Please blow this thing up. Trade Bass Banks Rondo Olynyk Green for picks.

Going along with this though, what could we get if we sent Randle to a third team (Lakers get Rondo)?

I don't think they'll trade for Rondo, but I'm just saying if they're to trade IT I don't see why they'd move him for Lin. Lin is an expiring but it is not as if IT is a cap-killer and he is not unfairly paid. If they choose to move him for financial reasons, it should be for something more than Lin.

I'd keep:

Rondo, Smart, Green, Olynyk, Zeller.

Everybody else is up for grabs.
add young into that group and i agree wholeheartedly

There isn't a single player on this team I wouldn't trade for an upgrade.  I don't think there is a single player on the roster who is a top 30 player or has the potential to get there.  Maybe Marcus Smart, but I doubt it. And as long as rondo is still on this team, smart is sort of redundant.  Id gladly trade any combo of players if it got us a better talent.

The idea that we need to hang onto Jeff green is pretty funny, btw. We've longed for him to drive up his trade value so we could move him... And now that he's out together a nice string of games and improved his trade value, people think we need to keep him?  Heck no. Sell high, baby.

espn trade machine is buggy, cant trade thornton or zeller till sept. 2015 instead of 2014...
(in combination with other players)

cant make many trades work without involving thorntons contract

This is a bit rash. I'm with you on the need to start developing legitimate talent, but Smart would have been a top 3 pick in most drafts. I'd try to convince you about Sullinger, but it seems like the best convincing would be to just be patient and watch him continue growing, as I believe he will.

Pretty interesting roundtable pretending to be Golden State's front office and assessing the team's need for a trade. At one point their lack of guard scoring behind Curry/Thompson is discussed. Thornton's name is brought up.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12036343/secret-golden-state-warriors-success-nba-front-office:

Quote
Elhassan: What flaw is there that can be cured by a personnel move? Let's look at it that way.

Thorpe: Right now, Speights is shooting lights out. He's an amazing shooter and always has been. But to depend on him at the big -- we know Lee can score -- that becomes a scary combination of Lee and Speights at the 4 or 5. No defense there . . . But I also think we could get much better production from a backcourt player off the bench. Livingston has a role, but he's never going to be a scorer.

They don't have a combo guard for the playoffs like, for example, Ben Gordon, Gary Neal, or Marcus Thornton. All three of those guys this year are doing a good job off the bench in their own capacity, and they're all available based on where their current teams are at. Those guys can really shoot the 3 and can really score; they bring energy in their own way. I get that, but I still think guard play -- think about the role guys like Patty Mills plays for the Spurs.

Elhassan: I would argue Leandro Barbosa does that.

Thorpe: I would argue he doesn't. I would say he's not a guy I would depend on compared to these other guys I've talked about.

Elhassan: But the Thornton kid? I would depend on Barbosa before Thornton.

Thorpe: As a shooter and a scorer?

Elhassan: Absolutely. Because he doesn't need the ball as long as Thornton.

I really, really wanna know what teams are valuing Green at...
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

It's Philadelphia.  Fans there booed Santa Claus (and threw snowballs, too).
