This could be a moon shot, but we need a defensive minded big. Any way to get KG back in Boston? He's not the long term answer but he could help us defensively at the end of games and be a mentor to Sully, KO, Zeller, Etc.

I don't understand this train of thought.

1. we won't win the title this year, short term upgrades not part of the future don't make sense due to this.
2. if we can't win the title, why not just enjoy watching basketball and not are about wins and losses, focus on players development.  Another facet which will be retarded if we bring KG back.
3. I know other people won't agree with this, but a well played and entertaining game in which we lose is the best possible outcome in my book.

I think KG's presence would enhance, not detract from, player development.

Agreed, but what to trade?  Don't think they would take back just Wallace.

Oh, I agree. I just meant in the general sense that KG could help the Celtics younger players.

But, as an idea, would you move Wallace and a non-Brooklyn 1st for KG's expiring?

at this point in his career, no

his contract expires this year, so I would gamble on Rondo signs here, with maybe some changes here and there and bring back KG for veteran leadership at like probably 15-20 minutes/game

Lopez is tempting but dangerous, I think DA stay fare away from this.

A deal that could work would be this one with Detroit

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=qbplqa3

Johnson is a ton of $$ to take on but is one year less then Smith and a much better roster fit.

I will also add this crazy 3 team gem.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mox4884

I would not be shocked to see Sac make a run at D-Will.

For OKC this is a risk but could get them a ring if Lopez is healthy in the playoffs. They also have Steven Adams as a nice insurance policy, backup PG would be a worry.

The Nets get younger, more athletic and free up some major $$. They also would likely be looking into other deals to clean up the roster after this deal.

I was high on Lopez, but then he got hurt.... again. I hope DA doesn't trade for any of them, but  would be down if he helped facilitate a trade if it scored us someone like Noel, Dieng, or Plumlee.

The big takeaway from this is that we should all aspire to being as bad at our jobs as Billy King while remaining so consistently employed.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

There is just no way that the Nets can trade one of those guys and make their team better in the short term. The best they can hope for is to shed a contract and get a young, cost controlled player with some potential.

2016 is still a ways a way, but this is good news for us.

I think they might be able to shed some contracts, but it will leave their roster so bare of top talent, top FA are not going to consider them.

What we want is for them to panic add role players to make themselves better this year, while keeping JJ, D-Will and Lopez's huge contracts.  They will miss the lottery this year and then completely fall apart for 2016, 2017, 2018 when we get their first rounder each time.  If we can just be in the lotto one more time this year, we can add someone really good like.....I mean like pick somebody.  Jahil Okafor, Mudiay, Karl Towns, Justise Winslow, Stanley Johnson, D'Angelo Russell - I would be happy with any of them.  You all see how Marcus Smart is doing right now.

We are about to shed MASSIVE amounts of payroll at the end of this season, then add 2 first rounders, one of which will probably be in the lotto.  Then, we get to add lotto picks from the Nets three years in a row and grab role players with Cleveland and Philly's later picks.  So glad we root for the Celtics.

Why?

What's so enjoyable about watching your team lose?

I don't get it.

Is losing the new way of winning and no one told me yet?

I am not saying getting the Brooklyn guys would necessarily make us better, but every team should keep an open mind.

This thing with "player development" to me is a total dead end road unless the talent you're developing will either help you win games or help you bring in talent to help you win games.

As for the original premise, I've long felt that Brooklyn COULD be a great trading partner for the Celts

2016 - Simmons, Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown
2017 - Harry Giles

I didn't include Thon Maker because he is reclassifying I believe?  Harry Giles was the "Next Guy"...A lot of people thought as a freshman in high school he was the best player in America. 6'9 forward that can literally do it all.  He tore his ACL playing for Team USA, probably going to Duke or UNC but the kid is a stud.

That's an interesting idea. Can Joel Anthony be aggregated in trade? I also think that Detroit would be reluctant to part with Jerebko if Smith is heading out of town.

Also, how peeved would Joe Johnson be to be shipped to Detroit? Not that the prospects of winning are much better in Brooklyn.

I honestly wouldn't mind any of the three in the right trade and I actually think a Rondo/Williams backcourt would pose all kinds of problems for opposing teams (Williams for all his flaws is still an excellent outside shooter hitting over 40% this year on over 4 shots a game).

I think something like this might make sense for all 3 teams

Boston - Lopez, Williams
Detroit - Thornton
Brooklyn - Smith, Wallace, Bass, Faverani, Powell, Detroit 2016 1st (protected), LAC 2015 1st, lesser of BOS/BRK 2016

Detroit unloads Smith at the cost of a future protected pick.

Brooklyn replenishes the draft picks a bit and at least gets a name back in Smith while shaving future salary in the process.

And Boston in my mind has a real shot if Lopez, Williams, and Rondo are all healthy come playoff time and it fixes some of the issues the team has (Williams has that #1 scorer mentality and Lopez is a legit center) and doesn't cost Boston much (a couple of later 1sts and cap space).

PG - Rondo, Smart, Williams
SG - Williams, Bradley, Turner
SF - Green, Turner, Young
PF - Sullinger, Olynyk
C - Lopez, Zeller
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

I agree.

I think all 3 guys from Brooklyn could easily catapult us to a playoff team.

If there's a move out there that will improve your team for the short team that's reasonable, then I would jump all over it.

It's so much more enjoyable to watch team your play for wins and playoff positioning than watching them lose to get a better chance to draft Emeka Okafor, Karl Winslow or whoever else is in next year's draft.

I even think JJ could help this team out by providing more offense.

The logical trade partner for the Nets would be the Lakers.

- In two year Kobe retirement tour.
- Do not own a pick this season.
- Have a ton of expiring contracts.

Kobe, D-Will and Lopez makes for an interesting team.

Or you know, maybe the Celtics could make a logical partner as well.

Only one real trade in the works for Brooklyn: Once more, Nets-76ers trying to complete an Andrei Kirilenko deal, league sources tell Yahoo.

To unload Kirilenko, Nets would include second-rounder, sources tell Yahoo. Philly would waive Kirilenko. Teams still discussing details.
