Yes and there is zero reason against it for all you people saying no. Rondo is not worth a max contract or a significant raise, which he will surely demand. If you dont want to pay him he will leave and we will get nothing. As my professor always said in logistics class, something is INFINITELY better than nothing.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion.  I know we live in a sports environment of "what have you done for us lately?" and, admittedly, Rondo hasn't done much for us lately.

I think it's easy to forget how valuable a player Rajon Rondo has been for this franchise.  You are welcome to argue that he has no chance to return to his top form after recovering from knee injury.  It's entirely possible that he will never fully recover, but it's also quite likely that he will be able to.  There is a sizable enough list of players who have recovered fully from ACL surgery and played some of their best basketball after returning that it should give us reason for expecting our point guard to do the same.

It should be an interesting season for Rondo and this team.  I'm excited to see how our point guard handles his comeback.  I'm expecting big things.  It's a big challenge, but he's met big challenges and he's exceeded expectations many times in the past.  I'm cautiously confident that he can do it again.

The bolded isn't something you can say with any real certainty, though, at least, not in the context that you're talking about.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

If Rondo leaves it opens more salary to spend. I wouldn't call that nothing. Cap space can improve the rebuild time.

You don't trade him unless an offer blows you away (or Rondo sucks up the joint).

I used to be in the trade Rondo camp but now I don't think there's a single team with the assets and the willingness to surrender them for him. Perhaps someone will get desparate, but if it's true that he wants to re-sign in Boston, I'd way rather keep him than take a middling offer.

Or Rondo tells you he's out.

Even then,  do you necessarily trade him?  If the offers aren't there or are less than stellar?

Wouldn't you be better off just letting him walk and taking the cap space rather than trading him for a dog package that might tie up your cap longer term?

Trade Rondo before the deadline.

No.

More random location draft picks are not needed by this team.

Teams are not offering star level prospects.

There is nothing the team is going to get back that would be a potential FA draw Rondo could be.

The Celtics would be better off with the chance to resign Rondo vs. adding more "OK" pieces to add to their multiple "OK" pieces.

If Rondo isn't staying with the team short term cap room is largely irrelevant especially with the coming cap increases.

Get what talent/assets you could get at that point if Rondo is 100% out ala Kevin Love. I think Rondo isn't going to do that though, if he was he'd have already done so.
