What's your opinion on trading Rondo? Also, who would you trade him for?

I'm stuck whether I want to trade him or not. It depends on what package we'd get.

If you cant get an Allstar before this season or before the next; then trade or let him go. Either way we have to see what our young players can do. If Sully truly has improved enough to be a Kevin Love lite with a little better defense, and is an fringe Allstar, we are just one or two pieces away.

It's based on your perspective, quite simply

I would trade him for players that are better than him, preferably in the singular but as a package if you must.

I would not trade him explicitly to make the Celtics worse.

There's a ton of variables at play here.  At least, to me, it's not quite as simple as "trade him" or "don't trade him".

-Does he want to stay in BOS and resign with the Celtics?

-What are the trade offers coming in? Are they still 25 cent or 50 cent on the dollar deals or pretty balanced trade offers?

-If he doesn't want to resign, do we ship him out in a trade for pennies on the dollar just to get something of return or do we simply let him play out the season and let him walk for nothing at the end of the year and take the salary cap savings?

Right now, I'm inclined to keep him because, quite frankly, he's the Celtics best player and I think he can be a piece (not THE piece, but a piece) of a contender.   Also, I think the trade offers that have been speculated about have been pure garbage. I'd rather let him walk for nothing than take on some of those crap offers that might tie things up down the road.

If I'm Ainge, I'm working to get him resigned and staying in Boston unless I'm blown away by a trade offer (which I doubt is happening).

There's a start!!  You'll garner a lot more respect if you base your opinion on whether or not we should trade Rondo on what the other team is offering, as opposed to whether or not you want to trade him.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I proposed a deal on here about a few months or so back that generated reasonable, intelligent discussion. Framework of the deal was Rondo for Ibaka. Celtic homers felt relinquishing Rondo should merit some other sweets on the side (like maybe a 1st and dumping Wallace's contract for Perkins' expiring). Proponents of greater objectivity felt it should be Boston giving up some extra sweets, like perhaps the inclusion of Olynyk and/or James Young.

Other frameworks (meaning not to jump on me if the salary doesn't exactly match up) I think merit discussion:

Rondo/2015 LAC 1st (necessary for the inclusion of a better Knicks pick) for Stoudemire/Hardaway, Jr./2015 lesser DEN/NYK 1st/2018 NYK 1st

Rondo for 3/4 of Reggie Jackson/Mitch McGary/Steven Adams/Jeremy Lamb + 2015 OKC 1st. If OKC is willing to ship both Jackson and Adams they can keep McGary and Lamb as long as we get the first on top (that's a must).

Rondo for 2/3 of McLemore/Stauskas/2015 SAC 1st + future SAC 1st.

I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting and others that will inevitably appear sometime in December that make a lot more sense than anything I'm proposing here.

It's worth noting that Houston and Dallas just don't seem to have the pieces for a Rondo deal, while the willingness of OKC and NYK to surrender those type of assets for an impending free agent -- albeit the fairness to Boston in those deals -- seems slim.

I think we'll just end up seeing his contract expire and watch him leave for the Knicks or something.

There's no combo of teams that want Rondo, have assets to give, and Rondo wants to play for.

Kings want Rondo and have assets to give, but Rondo doesn't want to play there.

Plenty of teams have assets to give, but don't want/need Rondo.

A couple teams want Rondo, could probably get Rondo to re-sign... but have nothing to offer (Knicks).

Only team that really makes sense is the Lakers.  Nash's expiring + Randle for Rondo.... and that's probably not happening.   SO we'll try to resign him, but he'll probably pull a Ray and leave for greener pastures.

We missed our chance while dreaming of getting Kevin Love.  We are stuck with Rondo for a while.  If he gets back on the court and plays well, teams will be interested.

If I felt it was more likely that he would resign with us, it would be easier to consider holding on to him.  There is just too much risk of him walking away and leaving us with nothing.

If you are so worried he'll leave, we are actually only stuck with him for the next seven months.
