Turner is a multi-talented (10 rebs last night) multi-skilled (plays point guard if needed) multi-hyped (that's why he was picked 2nd overall).  So he is aware of multiplication.
We just need to teach him division:  cut down on 2 turnovers a game and a few errant shots!

Trust me, his play will add up!

Joe Maddon, is that you?

I see Turner as a significant upgrade over Jordan Crawford--and Thornton as a significant upgrade over Marshon Brooks. Turner's probably landed in the best possible place for him right now.

This post really does put Evan Turner in perspective.   He is absolutely an upgrade over JC and, in fairness, if Jeff Green is going to be constantly grieved upon based on value relative to contract, it's only right that we measure ET similarly.   At $3M Turner will either be just another guy (which at 3M is what he should be), or he will be a very high value player relative to his contract.

Expect Jordan Crawford and I think we'll be pleased.  Expect John Havlicek and we'll likely be disappointed.

I get that Turner had a decent night and that he is probably going to have a bunch of them and a bunch of bad nights. Its what he is.

I get that he will add a dimension to this team we are sorely lacking, the ability to create a shot and not be timid in taking it. Whether he makes that shot is another matter.

I get that he is probably a bargain given he is being paid just $3 million for two years and will add more to this team than that amount of money would normally dictate.

What I don't get is how anyone can think he will add veteran leadership. Having played a few years and having played mostly with the ball in your hands doesn't make you a leader. I saw nothing in last night's game that led me to believe that Turner is suddenly someone that young players should look up to and emulate.

Let's not confuse moving over to PG for a night and running an offense against maybe the worst team of the last 20 years with leadership ability.

Same old, Turner, one or two dribbles too many. Ridiculous shots. Even the one he makes. And plays amazingly vs college level players. The only time he looks decent is when he is on a terrible team like the Celtics are now. He is horrific in efficiency wise.

Let Marcus Smart get 40 minutes a game this year so he can learn what the ball looks like when it hits the bottom of the net.

Turner is trash.

Maybe you should go post this on the 76er forum.

It's not going to be the same old Turner.  Not under this coach, not with this organization.

He'll be a great addition.  The versatility can be used on any team.  You just need a smart coach who knows how to use it to his advantage.  We have that.

The close-minded comments on Turner on here are disappointing. The guy is 25, he has plenty of time to improve on his efficiency and decision making under a much better coach in a new system. He is highly talented and showed it last night. Calling him a stop-gap or a temporary solution is very narrow minded. He's young and talented, and loves our young coach. He should be here for the long haul as a key building block. I mean, Avery Bradley is 23 and played for a different coach already in Doc, why do people still think he will improve but crap all over a much more talented player in Turner? I get it that people didn't like him based on his time on the Sixers, but he was a young, #2 pick on a horrible team with a bad coach and no vet presence, and was left to run wild on an organization that didn't want to win, what did people expect?

Pierce had maturity and decision making issues for years on the Celtics until Doc took over and helped him mature, and he was much older than Turner when that happened. We are very lucky to have this guy on the team, and for the money he signed for, he was a complete steal.

Agreed.  I love Turner on the C's and am looking forward to him really helping out the team.  Better than watching Sleepy Uncle Jeff.

I, for one, am ready to get behind Turner. His comments last night about "just hitting singles" and "slowing down and letting the game come to him" are refreshing, and prove that, thus far, he gets it. This is a new situation for him, and he deserves a clean slate--and I'm prepared to give him one. Hope you all are too.

He's exactly what this rebuilding team needs at the moment; someone who can create his own shot.  That aspect was severely lacking from the Celtics last year.  They don't have guys on this team right now who can attack the rim or create things for themselves offensively.  Turner can do that.  Doesn't appear he can play much defense and his ball control is questionable but I'm willing to look past that for the moment.  Especially for what he's getting paid.

Now I don't think he'll end up a long term solution in Boston but given this current team's weaknesses, I have no problem having him on the roster right now as they continue the rebuild.
How many games did this team lose a year ago because they could buy a bucket in the 4th quarter?  The Celtics have been begging for this type of player and even if Turner is a poor man's version of what they actually need, the C's will win more games than last season.

+1

i mean i can't believe this thread even exist.  It's like i'm on crazy pills or something

We won by 20.  Turner was one of the main reason why.

I can't even imagine what kind of thread the OP will create if Turner has one off game

He loves playing in this building. It doesn't matter if he is visiting or playing for us.

Most of us were whining that no FA's wants to play for the Celts.

Well Turner is different. We really couldn't afford him and he still took a discount to come and play for the Celts.

He really wants to play as a Celtic.   I'm loving that

Marcus Smart really wanted to be drafted by the Celtics. Unlike one workout , don't bother me Julius Randle.

James Young is really excited to be a Celtic.

This team unlike last years version is going to play with more emotion, pride and i hope they can blow the roof off the TD Garden on a nightly basis
