Cavs trade for Bogans. It's official.

When its all said and done Powell is the only guaranteed deal the Cs received and the only one with a shot at making the team.

So the trade is basically Bogans and unusable 2nd round picks for a TE (reported at 3.5mill), Powell, and 2 usable 2nd round picks.

Anybody who has watched Erik Murphy?

I see 45 % from 3 (72 makes out of 159 attempts) in his last college season. 6'10 - good size for stretch forward. Why could not he be a Steve Novak or Matt Bonner 2?

Might give Powell a run for his money for a last roster spot.

He could, but in the past 6 months he's been:

1) Cut by the Bulls to save money
2) Claimed by the Jazz in April, only to be traded to the Cavs so they could clear salary
3) Traded by the Cavs to Boston, so the Cavs could acquire a larger non-guaranteed deal.

He might be useful, but we're now his 4th team in 5 months, and his transactions have been largely contractual.  He'll probably get to fight through training camp, on the off-chance another trade is made creating a roster spot, but I don't see him sticking around otherwise, unless his camp performance is a revelation.

I like the Dwight Powell guy.
Lots of potential there with Stevens as coach.
Could create some nice mismatches as a stretch 4 or 5.
One of the reports said his handle was much improved this offseason.
Wouldn't completely write him off as an SF.

I agree liked his game in college and was surprised he measured as big as he did. I figured he was going to measure in around 6'8 in shoes and need to convert to SF but at 6'11 I like his potential. Seems like a good IQ player with a nice perimeter skill set particularly as a passer. He actually brings move size and athleticism to the PF position then any other big currently on the team.

I wouldnt call it nothing. True this trade has very little effect on the court this season.The TPE and 2nd round picks are nice trade pieces in exchange for a player with no on the court value. Also as I just posted Powell has some decent potential as a future bench player.

I can see I'm with the minority based on a lot of post. I just don't see the positives. I know what we got but there is no value in them (players received) or it (bottom of entire draft picks w/ low TPE). I would think Bogans could have been paired with a Bass, Green or some other kind of trade to bring back some kind real value. Not that Bogans would be traded for undrafted level players on non-guarantees + picks. We had that already in Babbs, CJ and at a time Pressey. Also those picks Cavs gave up are garbage. The roster just grew with more scrubs along with another plethora of lame picks. DA held onto and paid Bogans for that haul? I'm a big DA supporter but outside the draft dude has serious failed this off-season. I don't want to think how some one who didn't like C's draft views this off-season.

Yeah, I think way too many people are seeing this as a trading Bogans the player (almost no value) for some assets in return. They should be seeing this as giving up on Bogans the trade asset (value much higher) because the Celtics know no big trade that would require his deal is forthcoming.

I'm starting to dislike TPE's.. Jerk mode, but no one knows how they work or how they're even made and any trade thread always turns into pages of people not understanding it.

I understand how they work.  Sometimes, I think you shouldn't be allowed to post trade ideas if you don't understand how TPEs work, but that would eliminate 90% of the threads.

Speaking of trade exceptions, if the Celtics are actually getting a trade exception for the full value of Bogans' contract (as it has been reported), this means that they used most of their exception from the Courtney Lee trade to acquire John Lucas III.  The other three players all make the minimum, and so the Celtics wouldn't have to send out salary to take them on, but Lucas makes more than the minimum, and thus other outgoing salary or a trade exception would be needed to take him on without cutting into the exception created by Bogans.

Yeah this isn't a nothing trade at all... If anything we turned nothing into something.

Bogans wasn't going to be playing for us this year obviously. We turned his dead weight sittin' on the couch contract into two future second round picks, a second rounder this year that has a good chance of making the squad and contributing to an NBA team (doesn't have loads of potential but can be a solid player), another guy who can fight for a spot in training camp, two unguaranteed contracts that will save us a bit of cash, as well as the 5.3 million dollar trade exception which will come in handy down the line.

That's a fairly significant return for basically nothing (aka Bogans).

Most of us have seen that for months, and have moved on from that disappointment.  It's been pretty clear since Evan Turner agreed to come to Boston, even though the Celtics didn't have room to sign him, that Bogans was going to be cut or traded for a future trade exception.  We got the latter, plus two future second-round picks and a 2014 second-rounder.  That's a solid deal.

Furthermore, since the Celtics will now be beneath the luxury tax, and have a myriad of mid-sized trade exceptions, it puts them in better negotiating position when trying to trade someone like Brandon Bass.  Now any team trading with the Celtics can't hope for a discount because the C's get completely clear of the luxury tax, or because they pick up a trade exception.

Now if we could ditch Wallace,  Bass , Anthony the rebuild would be on the turn around. 

Maybe DA gets enough mediocre picks seconds and late  first and able to offload Wallace sooner than later in some deal ...... Without giving up the better first rounder picks,

Like yourself, I guess I shouldn't have expected anything more in return for Bogans but I was also hoping maybe his salary could've been included in a bigger deal to land a contributing player instead of Colin Powell and a series of other non-guaranteed deals.

Bogans had also burned his bridges around here.  Probably factored into dumping him off rather than cutting him for nothing or paying him a bunch of money to stay away from the team.
