The distraction needs to be traded.

Is there a market? Of course there is. The ? is, how much or less will another team offer or the Celtics take for a player who cannot create his own shot, shoot, shoot free throws and be a Team player.

Rondo is not a Leader. He proved it this season by hanging his coach out to dry during his birthday bash weekend..

If this Player had the talent of a CPaul or DRose do you really think MELO signs back with NY. I'd even go out on a limb to say if the talent was there, LOVE even with Lebron in Cleveland would have thought long and hard about playing in Boston.

Rondo had great value with the big 3. All Rondo had to do was create. And he did a very good job doing that. There is NO TALENT coming to Boston where rondo can Play HIS GAME.

He is a free agent to be not worth the max due to limited physical abilities on the court.
MOVE ON and let the rebuild take its course.

If Im Wyc, tell Danny to trade him or find someone who will...

IMHO a healthy Rose is not better than a healthy Rondo.

Rose is not a great shooter either - he has traditionally been a pretty poor shooter from three and from midrange, while also being horrendously bad defensively (his defence is shockingly overrated, even despite the fact that most people acknowledge it's nothing special).

Rose has only one elite skill, and that is finishing with contact around the basket - that's it.  He can't play defence, he's a mediocre shooter, he's a mediocre rebounder, he has mediocre BBIQ, and he's soft as a marshmallow (zero leadership skills, zero toughness).  But he scores a lot of points (because he takes a lot of shots), he dunks a lot and he's good at making off balance shots around the basket - that stuff makes for good TV ratings, so the NBA endorses him like he's a semi-god.

Rondo for his position has multiple elite skills - passing, rebounding and defence (when he can be bothered) are all elite talents that Rondo possesses.  In terms of intangibles he has elite BBIQ and has one of the toughest players in the league both mentally and physically - he'll play through anything and I've lost count of the number of times he has won possessions with his hustle play.  From midrange, he is a better shooter than Rose is.  Rondo's big weaknesses is that he isn't a consistent three point shooter (which he's improving at) and he is a terrible free throw shooter...that's pretty much it.

would I trade Rondo for Rose?  No.  Especially when you combine Rose's busted knees with his absolute softness.

Interesting point also that Rose apparently said he'll change his game from now on and be less aggressive so that he avoids further injuries.  You know what Derek Rose minus the aggressiveness/explosiveness equals?  Steve Francis 2.0 - remember what he looked like late in his career? Yep, that's your new age Derek Rose.

I've gotta hand it to you, you are definitely invested in retaining your throne as the local King of the Inane Hot Sports Takes.

What's wrong with what he said?

I know you love Rondo but come on!  Rose when healthy is light years ahead of Rondo, it's not even close!  He doesn't shoot that well?  he shoots 1 percent worse than Rondo for his career and he is a much better 3pt shooter and he shoots 20% higher from the line than him.  Rose before the knee injury was the third best player in the NBA behind James and Durant.  Rondo is lucky to be in the top 30....

I know people love Rondo but lets not get ridiculous around here....

I could say the same for people who hate Rondo here.......

I don't hate Rondo - but to say that Rondo is better than a healthy Rose is really off-base.  There isn't one GM in the NBA that would agree with that statement....Rondo is a nice player who on some nights can be the best player on the floor.  When Rose was healthy, he was the best player on the floor almost every single time he took the court....

If we had chris paul, doc prob would of stayed. Maybe wyc is still bitter that Doc left
I would take Rondo and Stevens over Paul and Doc any day.

In fact. He is no doctor. I refuse to call him Doc any more

TP !

Top 5 player and top 5 coach in Chris Paul and Doc vs top 20 (maybe) player and top 10 coach.
Not sure if you're serious.
Glenn Rivers is a cruddy coach. If you give him several of the best players in the game for several years he might get you one whole ring. Whoop de doo. Then he'll complain later, jump ship when he quits on you, and act all surprised that anyone gets upset about it. Give me Stevens any day.

I don't know, I actually kind of enjoyed seeing the Celts win a first championship in 20 years.
I still believe that it would have been two titles in a row but for a terrible injury to Perk down the stretch of game 6 against the Lakers.  Not all on-court events are within the locus of a head coach's control.  By the way, it seems that Rivers is doing a nice job with the Clippers so far...
I agree with what you're saying, but I think any competent coach could have done what he did. I also don't see him doing anything impressive with the Clips. He's got a phenomenal team not going anywhere so far.

Agreed. There's been hyperbole in both directions on this blog since I started lurking.

Considering that Wyc isn't a professional basketball coach, truer words were never spoken.

This is the best post in this thread.

Yeah, I mean what can the owner of the team possibly know about what coaches, both past and present, privately say about Rondo.

The way this thread has gone, you would think he said RR isn't coachable. Oh well, nothing new for CB.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)
