Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

To make it worse, it's looking like this is our roster for opening night.

Funny how we went from speculating about a big 3 of Rondo/Love/Melo to a starting lineup of Rondo/Bradley/Green or Turner/Sullinger/Zeller ???

Sure has been great for the Cavs though, who were basically gift wrapped everything this offseason on a silver platter.

I am still waiting on a Kevin Durant for Dion Waiters trade, any minute

The whole Rondo/Love/Melo speculation shouldn't have ever been seriously discussed considering there was absolutely nothing tangible linking Melo to Boston.

I know. Where did that even come from anyway?

Was it because Rondo randomly brought up Melo's name in an interview when he was asked about Kevin Love's "visit" to Boston? (lol)

Yeah, it's been a fairly "meh" offseason.

Ainge has been unable to make a big move to really change Celtics hopes. Not able to acquire either a star player or a quality starting center. Ainge has done well with some small moves to increase assets / flexibility and continues to position the team very well for the future but in the immediate sense it's been a quiet summer. A summer of "patience".

For the Celtics, yeah.

For the league as a whole it has been pretty exciting.

As long as we see the team moving forward, I have no issue with the patience.

I think the whole love in Boston, seeing rondo was to show mello he might come, it just backed fired but we shouldn't get him before draft. I think the love in Boston really p---ed minny

But I can't hate what we're doin right now, it will get better its just when

And I think Minny is still bitter about the whole KG thing.

Love in Boston was public negotiating. Minny obviously took notes on how stoked the C's fanbase was at the idea, and it really hammered home the fact that Love had both feet out the door.

I'd be much more disappointed if Danny had squandered assets and cap flexibility for mid-tier upgrades.

There are many other smart GMs out there trying to do exactly what we are trying to do. And I think in contrast to the last time Danny was rebuilding, there are more such smart GMs. The rest of the league has caught up to where Danny was 8 years ago, in terms of understanding the value of flexibility.

It may take a while given that competition for assets is so fierce, but we improved our team while adding picks, losing no key players (not that we have many) and preserving possible cap room in the years to come. I give Danny a solid B+.

And if the ping-pong balls had swung differently and we now had Parker or Wiggins, I suspect we'd see a lot more "Danny is a genius!" threads. But the difference between that state of affairs and the one we are in can't be chalked up to him.

We added some assets for nothing, I will take it.   Better to be steady and not overpay for someone.

instead we just signed mid-tier upgrades...well not upgrades, but players.

It may have not been the "fireworks" off-season people were hoping for, but then again I don't think Danny could have done anything else after getting hosed yet again in the lottery. The deals just weren't out there. The one deal he made was outstanding in getting Zeller and a 1st for the TPE. He drafted Rondo's heir-apparent in Smart, which means he'll be in a great position to deal Rondo when his value may be very high (at the trade deadline). He resigned Bradley for reasonable money and given the growth in Bradley's game that deal may be seen as a steal in a year or two.

Danny has collected yet more assets and is really set this year to showcase them - Olynyk, Bradley, Sully, Rondo and Green while bringing the new guys up to speed (Smart and Young) without putting too much on their shoulders too soon. The club is constructed better this year and he's done it while adding more assets.

Think about it this way....how much does the dynamic change if Sully becomes a 17/10 guy? Or if Olynyk shows he can be a 20ppg scorer? Or Bradley continues to grow his game and becomes a 15 PER player while still being a lockdown defender? Or Rondo shows he's healthy and goes back to being a 20 PER player? The demand for these guys would be incredible. None of those are that much of a reach and if any of them happen then Danny all of a sudden is holding awesome cards to deal or enough cards to add to a growing core of a potentially good team. And it's not like all of those need to happen...just one or two of those things coming true changes the entire dynamic. Of course, none of those may happen in which case it's back to the drawing board.

Essentially, this is the year everyone gets to see how good of a hand the Celtics really have. And it could be mediocre, or it could have a couple of aces in it. The future for most bad teams revolves around one player - usually their new high draft choice - and that's about all. In this case, this draft could be an entire bust and the Celtics could find themselves with a much stronger hand than they had last year. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.
