And another opportunity for us that we never took advantage of ::).  Thanks Danny

You know signing Lance for us will only be via S&T...
and Lance need to agree on the offer and other team to agree on  S&T...

it's not like:
DA: "Hey Lance! sign with us!"
Lance: "Sure! why not! screw CBA!"

So if Bradley would not have been signed, would it still have been a sign and trade?

Yes. We didn't have cap space for him. We had to let the Pierce trade exception expire, and make some other trades to clear cap space.

Sorry, all that maneuvering wasn't going to happen.

ok.  Well jeez, thanks.  Didnt realize danny was that handcuffed with moeny.  The way it sounded he had all kinds of cap room to work with.  Well, I hope he at least tried to get stephenson, because imo he's still better than Bradley.

It sounded like that because few people here bother to at least try to gain basic understanding of the CBA at the very least :) So misinformation gets perpetuated.

Next year is when we'll have real cap space to work with. Hope something significant falls into our lap.

This is an important conversation that needs to be noted as such.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I like Charlotte's team....I think the Cavs will win the East but it's literally wide open....you can make a case for 5 or 6 teams going to the finals...

Somewhere in NYC Adam Silver is smiling...

cavs will win the east?
i don't think so

if nets had pierce and everyone was healthy they can win it
heat with a SF of deng is not enough, and still no center, minus lebrons rebounds

bulls
heat
cleveland
wizards
pacers
raptors
knicks
hawks

9 mil!?!?! And were paying AB 8?!?! I'm shaking my head so much I had to call off work. I'm throwing up. We need players like Lance. Playmakers. and to know he only went for a million more than AB makes it even worse.

Locker room stuff matters.  A lot of teams don't want to take a chance on bad character with a high-priced free agent, because it's harder to fix if the rumors are all true.  A cheap player, sure, you can cut him easily.

But also, Bradley makes $15 million over the next two seasons, while Lance makes $18 million.  That's 20% more.  And if Lance is as wonderful a bargain as you think he is, and he may be, he'll make a lot more from 2016-2018, when Bradley is scheduled to make $17 million.  If he puts the locker room antics behind himself, Lance should probably wind up making on average $3-4 million more per season over the 4 years of Bradley's contract, or near 50% more.  If he doesn't, it's because NBA teams just don't think he's worth the trouble.

In a professional league, lockeroom stuff SHOULD NOT matter.  It's what the guy does on the court.  If he's a headache in the lockerroom but and star on the court, people need to get over it.  They are all professionals and shouldnt be coddled becasue someone rubs them the wrong way.  I would have rather had Lance over Bradley.  Terrible decision by Ainge.

I'm sorry, but that's just naive.  If a player isn't professional off the court, that's going to detract from practices, film sessions, game plans and the like.  Basketball is very much a team sport -- you need everyone on the same page.

Furthermore, when that player has a history of sexual assault and domestic violence, you run further risk.  Look, I think Charlotte got a good deal, but there's a reason NBA teams (and their army of private investigators) weren't tripping over each other to sign the guy.  Charlotte gets a potential discount for two years, while Lance gets a chance to show everyone he's matured, before striking it huge in 2016 (he'll get Carmelo money if he grows up.)

$9 million/year?

That's a great deal for Charlotte after the silly season deals we've seen the past 2 weeks.  Lance taking the gamble on himself here to look to really cash in, 3 years from now.

Would've sworn someone would've gone crazy money with Lance and overpaid him.

Player option for year 3.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11221796/lance-stephenson-charlotte-hornets-3-year-27-million-deal

ESPN has it reported as a team option. Which makes it a crazy good contract for Charlotte.

Huh.  First reports I saw had it as a player option.  If it's a team option, that changes a lot.

SI has the same thing, team option for the third year.

So yeah I think Lance felt disrespected by the 5 year offer from the Pacers and decided to move on. I'd be shocked if the Pacers wouldn't have offered the same sort of contract had he given them a chance too.

Great move for Lance and great move for Charlotte.
LS is a rising star and has the ability to be a max player. Maybe Jordan mentoring will help him to. He's the kind of guy that needs somebody "bigger than life" shadow him and guide him like Bird in Indiana and now Jordan in Charlotte.
Charlotte just become a lock in the EC playoffs. I actually curious for the new Chatlotte Hornets.

Seems that way, but it also seems as if the Pacers didn't fight too hard to keep him.

On espn Mike & Mike C. Broussard said that the Pacers would have given less money on a shorter deal than the Hornets.

Ouch, man the Pacers didn't really want to keep him I guess.

Shorter term at the same per year money seems like something they should have been willing to do. Did they not want Lance at their 5 year offer at all?

Doesnt the pacers have time to match?

No, he was an unrestricted free agent.

Dumb move by the pacers to let him go for nothing unless they got someone in mind to replace him. Stephenson was a key player on that team.

Since the Stephen Jackson brawl the Pacers have gone out of their way to have a good natured organization... I think they'll regret that move in this particular case, admirable as it's been otherwise.

I think they wanted him on that 5 year bargain deal.

I'm happy for Lance, though I don't like him.. I'm happy for him because it's a joke Hibbert get so much money and practically does nothing in the playoffs (a couple of times literally nothing). David West is overpaid too, though not by much. George Hill is one of the worst contracts in the league. LS is worth more than either of these players. His new short term deal give him a chanche to prove he's a max player.

I don't see why a 5 year deal at a bargain rate is something you'd want but a similar 3 year bargain contract wouldn't be desirable.
