Letting the Lakers grab Randle is why we are the Celtics and they are the Lakers. They got a game changing talent and we got Marcus Banks. God that coin flip messed out future up. Much rather have Exum. Such a dangerous first step. That Utah teams future is ALOT better than ours.
Smart is not like Banks at all. Completely different level passers and basketball IQ.
I think Randle could be a very effective player but he's pretty incomplete on both sides of the ball right now for me to regret him.
I posted this in a different thread but it fits here.
Banks went to UNLV. Smart went to Okie St.
Both guys were at school for 2 years, below are the career stats. I will let you guess which one is Banks and which one is Smart
16.6 p, 5.9 r, 4.5 a, 2.9 s, 0.6 b, 3.0 t, 2.9 f - 48.8 2PT%, 29.5 3PT%, 41.3 tot FG%, 75.1 FT%
18.1 p, 3.3 r, 4.3 a, 2.5 s, 0.2 b, 3.6 t, 2.9 f - 55.1 2PT%, 33.0 3PT%, 49.5 tot FG%, 73.1 FT%
Now can you really say they aren't similar. And unlike Smart, Banks didn't attack a fan and get suspended.
I suppose scouting with eyes has gotten a little devalued and these just my opinions but having seen Banks and Smart play, I'm confident in saying they are nothing alike. The quintessential Banks play for me was him rushing the ball down the court with great speed and then...doing nothing because he had absolutely no court vision whatsoever. His basketball IQ was extremely poor. As a pure athlete, I'd say he was better than Smart but he was also a bit shorter and had much shorter arms.
Banks also spent four years in college compiling your numbers (I presume only from his two years at UNLV). That makes a bit of a difference.
Smart is a really talented passer. He would've averaged more assists at OK State if their offense didn't involve him bringing the ball up and then passing it to the corner as part of some motion offense. The same versatile decision making Smart showed with screens in Orlando, he showed at OK State but he just didn't get as many chances. One of the things I love about Smart's passing is all the different deliveries he's capable of. He's clearly worked on all kinds of passing. He can deliver the over the shoulder heave to the corner, the backhand pass, the behind- the-back bounce back off pick and pops and the lefthanded bounce pass. He's a bit like Ginobili in this sense. Banks had no ability to be a point guard at all.
