Poll

Assume for a moment that Marcus is a total dud like Ron Mercer.  Which of the guys we passed on are most likely to make our blood boil for years to come because we could have picked him? This question only pertains to the 6th pick, not the 17th.

Wiggins, Parker and Exum for me

All guys who we didn't pass on, that's not what the poster meant.  I believe he meant guys we could've drafted but passed on.

I know. I'm happy with who we picked. No regrets.

Randle will be a good player, but so will Smart.  In terms of who will ultimately be better, I feel it is unlikely (although possible) that Randle's strengths will translate to greater long term success in the pros.  He won't be stronger than everyone for long and he is at the end  of the day a 6'9 PF with only a 7 ft wingspan who averaged 0.8 blocks a game in college.  He had 10 points in one summer league game, where he should have been able to use his strength to much better use while he is still matched up against borderline-NBA caliber players.

Smart has the physical tools and drive to have long term success in the pros.  There are plenty of scenarios where Randle comes out better, but Smart  is the better prospect hands down.  Everyone worked up about this can really calm down, it's ok to like Marcus Smart.

None.  Based on ratings pre-draft Smart went where he should have and Harris dropped, but more because teams in the teens drafting for needs where craptastic teams in the top 10 often can throw a dart at a list of names and fill a need.  Vonleh and Randle were in Smart's range and he's outplayed them in summer league considerably as well as "can't miss Gordon," who was the biggest reach in the top 10. I liked Harris at 17, but think when Cs solved their guard needs with Smart, they took Young instead.

I really liked McBuckets, but am concerned about defense.  He'll be better than some top 10 guys if he's not a zero on defense. Very good shooter and scorer. Would have liked a trade down, but never saw anyone looking to swap up. In the end we fixed a big hole in our guard rotation and got insurance on RR too with the Smart pick.

I think he will get a rude wake up call in the regular season where it is not summer league.

Letting the Lakers grab Randle is why we are the Celtics and they are the Lakers. They got a game changing talent and we got Marcus Banks. God that coin flip messed out future up. Much rather have Exum. Such a dangerous first step. That Utah teams future is ALOT better than ours.

I'm not even going to mention any of the first 5 picked before the Celtics

I am content with Smart at #6

Meaning the Lakers have the better franchise?  I don't get it.

I mean we've won more chips than them because we draft less talented players right?

Smart is not like Banks at all.  Completely different level passers and basketball IQ.

I think Randle could be a very effective player but he's pretty incomplete on both sides of the ball right now for me to regret him.

Rodney Hood looked pretty good knocking down spot up threes and hitting a few close range jumpers off the dribble, just like he did at Duke.  He was one of the best shooters in the draft.  I'm not sure Hood's and Young's games and roles are going to be all that different so I may have opted for the better shooter in Hood.

I think Ainge drafted perfectly....

Smart was BPA and gave us a corner stone (because Rondo isn't worth a max)

Young has size, potential, and scoring ability at the 2 spot and also was BPA

You have to love the possibility of Smart (6'8 wingspan drive and dish) and Young (7ft wingspan spot up and stick) being our future 1 and 2 guards.  I hope everyone keeps in mind the Wall and Beal are just starting to find chemistry and efficiency together.

I think Randle is going to be a stat sheet filler but I'm fairly certain he isn't going to play a lick of D his entire career.

not that this belongs in here, but the Lakers are historically a better franchise than the Celtics.  I get that the Celtics have 1 more title, but the Lakers have nearly twice the finals appearances (Boston is 17-4. L.A. is 16-15) and have missed the playoffs just 6 times since the start of the league (Boston for example, missed the playoffs 6 times in a row in the late 90's early 00's alone).  I'd rather have 1 less title with 10 more overall finals appearances and pretty much always being in the playoffs.

I posted this in a different thread but it fits here.

Banks went to UNLV.  Smart went to Okie St.

Both guys were at school for 2 years, below are the career stats.  I will let you guess which one is Banks and which one is Smart

16.6 p, 5.9 r, 4.5 a, 2.9 s, 0.6 b, 3.0 t, 2.9 f - 48.8 2PT%, 29.5 3PT%, 41.3 tot FG%, 75.1 FT%
18.1 p, 3.3 r, 4.3 a, 2.5 s, 0.2 b, 3.6 t, 2.9 f - 55.1 2PT%, 33.0 3PT%, 49.5 tot FG%, 73.1 FT%

Now can you really say they aren't similar.  And unlike Smart, Banks didn't attack a fan and get suspended.
