Wow, that was a hell of move by NYC in signing Phil Jackson. Looked like Melo was on his way out before Phil Jackson joined.

Yeah I thought he'd still go honestly.

I honestly think the Bulls shot themselves in the the foot by not clearing a true max salary slot for Melo.

Dumb move for him because the Knicks aren't going anywhere.  With this move, he'll never win a championship.  I wanted him so badly (still do) but if he was planning to join with Lebron somewhere, this is good for us.

This was kinda of expected actually. Given his lifestyle/family off the court, NYC and LA were his only real options--and really LA wasn't at all. Houston/Chicago were never really contenders.

All reports are that he really wanted to go to Chicago initially, but that they weren't able to offer him the maximum salary. (or at least they didn't offer that in their big sales pitch initially)

Good for him for getting his max deal, I guess, but didn't he say at one point that this wasn't about money and he didn't need a max dollar extension? 

Edit: I just feel he could have put himself in a better team situation, while still coming out with a very lucrative deal.  NYK isn't going to be legitimate for a while, unless Phil can pull off some major power moves somehow, some way.

He might have.  And he might have believed it at the time.  That said, he would have made more money every year by not opting out for this season, and signing a new deal next off-season, than he did this way.  So if it was all about the money, he needs a new adviser.

Not really, he just didn't want the financial risk that came with not locking in another long term deal.
