This is a hell of a quote:

Quote
Within Anthony’s circle, belief’s been this, sources tell Y: Get NY’s $129M now, figure out destination later. You can always get a trade.
via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports

That would make sense if he didn't turn 31 next season.

[dang], that is a punk move...going for the money just to demand a trade later to a team that will continue paying that

I can see him turning into a Karl Malone/Gary Payton type, once he is out of his prime years, realizes he hasn't won anything and has only a handful of seasons left.

Dumb move for him because the Knicks aren't going anywhere.  With this move, he'll never win a championship.  I wanted him so badly (still do) but if he was planning to join with Lebron somewhere, this is good for us.

While Phil is somewhat unproven as a front office guy, I could see him turning that franchise around pretty quickly. He is the first proven basketball mind they have had in charge since the 90's.

Already rumors that he is somehow close to dumping Amare's contract on the 76ers.

Raise your hand if you would take a $64 million paycut to play with derrick "will never be the same" rose? Didn't think so.

Melo sounds like a player who nobody will remember 20 years down the road. Died in the desert surrounded by bags of gold.

Surprised he didn't consider the Lakers further.  While they can't offer as much, a lot of the difference in $$ is the extra year, which Melo can get down the road.  Teaming up with Kobe and Gasol would be a decent core, much better than what the Knicks can offer.

Melo and Lala are all about the glitz. NY money and bright lights were too much for them to give up. In NY he is King, does he really want to play second fiddle to Kobe in LA.

If he picked or picks LA, the drama between him and Kobe would probably only be surpassed by the drama that would go down between their wives. I wonder if Phil Jackson did some negative recruiting against the Lakers. Would he do that? Yeah of course he would. Probably tell him all about Kobe for a teammate, and how Kupchak and Jim Buss do not know what they are doing. Do they even have a coach yet? Are they going to just roll out the ball and let Kobe coach the team?

The last time I asked the CB crew if 'Melo was a Hall of Famer, the overwhelming consensus was that he was.

That's hardly a 'nobody will remember,' but I could see him as a George Gervin/Bernard King type down the road, as far as "levels of fame" are concerned.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
