Ainge isn't lost.
Ainge is just choosing a different way to rebuild team. Doesn't want to bottom out and isn't going all in on winning now. Wants to stay competitive and build assets. Then use those assets and cap flexibility to acquire star talent. Similar to last time around when Ainge got Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Or how Morey got James Harden and Dwight Howard to Houston. This unfortunately means that team goes for assets over fit and roster balance so things get messy now and then (ie center-less team).
Gerald Wallace has negative trade value. Only way Ainge can trade G-Wallace is to give up draft picks to some team to get rid of Wallace. Right now, those picks are more valuable than the cap space so Wallace stays (for now). Humphries was extremely difficult to trade because he is a role player who was paid $11 million. Matching salaries in a deal for Humphries was always extremely difficult and highly unlikely because of this. Still time to use Bogans in a trade.
Disappointed Ainge didn't go out and get Asik. Sick of watching the Celtics get beaten up in the paint and unable to protect their own basket. It doesn't look like Ainge has any good (or even passable) option as alternative to Asik at center next season. Also, I think being more competitive next season would give Boston a big boost heading into free agency next summer. Another 25-30 win season and top free agents are going to question how ready this team is to win. So disappointed to miss out on Asik.
I don't give a crap about SL squad.
