Considering the cost of veteran SGs this summer, that seems like a reasonable price. Throw in the fact that Bradley is a lot younger than a lot of the others that just got bought on the market, and thus still is considered to have a lot of "upside", I'm not sure I buy the argument that it's an overpay.
Quite curious what you think the "cost of veteran SGs is". Jodie Meeks, who is perhaps the closest comparison, got $6.3 million per over 3 seasons. Guys like Jordan Farmar, DJ Augustin, and Ben Gordon got signed for fractions of Bradley's salary. A handful of players (Lowry, Hayward) got extremely rich contracts, but I don't think Bradley is close to any of them.
SG is traditionally the easiest position to man in the NBA. Bradley is a nice little player, but given his current skills and injury history, he's not worth $7-8 million per, unless he improves considerably over the life of this contract.
I know "I think he's going to" is not an argument, but.. I think he's going to.
Bradley seems to consciously work on his game every offseason, and has been held back repeatedly by freak injuries. I know that he's toeing the line between "needs to get a break healthwise" and "injury-prone," but when giving him the benefit of the doubt, he easily could be a 20 ppg guy in a year or two. Plus he's an above average to great defender.
Just don't put him in a ballhandling position and he'll flourish.
That's not the point. I've already conceded that you're paying for potential here, hoping that Bradley will perhaps turn into a $12 million player towards the end of his contract.
The question is to the people who think that Bradley's contract is fair right now based on what other SGs have gone for. I'm really curious who are those guards who have set the market for Bradley, as I couldn't find much in terms of done deals.
Also, Bradley is squarely in the injury prone category. His injuries aren't freak accidents where he gets whacked or collides with someone -- no, he breaks down from regular wear and tear, and that's pretty disheartening.
