The dude made All-Defensive team (2nd), averaged 15ppg as a 23 year-old, and shot 40% on 3PTs. Everyone is entitled to their theories about how to build a team or which players are worth the money, but the market for Bradley was at *least* a $32M deal. It looks like Gordon Hayward is about to make twice as much as a 3rd banana who can't defend.

I don't understand paying $32 million dollars for a guy who can't make it through the season.
I wouldn't be surprised if $32 was including performance incentives like staying games played.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Jay King: One league source on whether another team might have offered more than $8 million per year to Bradley: "Not a chance in hell." Twitter @ByJayKing

I think that source is wrong.  There are probably teams out there that are interested in making a run at Lance Stephenson.  The teams that fail would have turned to Bradley as the next best option.  After all, they'll tell themselves, Bradley had the higher ppg.  One of those teams might decided that it's better to overpay and give Bradley $9-10m, hoping that the Celtics find that too rich to match, rather than letting their cap space lie fallow.

Even if the source is correct that no team would offer more than $8m, that still technically allows for another team to offer exactly $8m and not a penny more.

Who is your source that says otherwise?!?!?  Based on the "Not a chance in hell" comment, I don't think anyone would have offered anywhere close to $8m.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

No one ever cites the follow up tweet...

That being said, Bradley wasn't going to make too much less than $8 mil per year no matter what. Especially after the Meeks deal.

If Bradley had the handles of a 6' guard I'd feel a lot better about this deal.  In fact, he can't finish in the lane or dribble worth a darn, that is scary.

He'll be shipped to Minnesota in the Kevin Love deal in 6 months.

No way I'm reading the whole thread before chirping in but all I gotta say is that I feel it's a fair value contract. We're paying for his defense, improvements on offense, but for me the most important thing is continuity. I'm tired of the Danny Ainge Celtics that swap 2/3 of the roster every single year. I'm glad we have him for at least a little longer, hopefully with Rondo too.

Wouldn't mind a Rondo/Bradley/Smart backcourt with Pressey deep in the depth chart similar to the old Westbrook/Sefolosha/Jackson backcourt of a couple years ago when Sefolosha was relevant.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!

With contracts like this we're not winning anytime soon. Meaning years.

That's because the 1st tweet was the opinion of the NBA source and the follow up tweet was Jay's personal opinion...which doesn't matter if we're focusing on what was said by the source.

I know you didn't mean it this way, but the second Tweet is what we should be calling "context."

What a load of Twitter nonsense. Nobody should be offering max money for Gordon Hayward, but someone is. You really telling me that 29 teams would balk at $9M/year in a league where Jodie Meeks just got $7M and Gordon Hayward is about to get $15M+? Just talk, as usual.

Avery Bradley can't do anything else on the court... a go to sentence for a lot of posters.

AB got 3.8rbs per game also. Before he was injured he was rebounding better than that. He rebounds better than a lot of players you say is so much better than he is.

Afflalo
Ellis
Klay 3.1

many more. They still call AB a PG so he rebounds much better if that's where you want to put him but I went with SG because that's what he is and he would tie for 12th (9th is 4.0 which is where AB was before he was injured) and he finished 6th for PGs where he was even before the injury.

So... really good defender, pretty good shooter, and pretty good rebounder. Yep, one trick pony.  ::)

Just because a lot of people say he only defends, it doesn't make it a fact.

Injuries and assists/ballhandling are his weaknesses. If you look how he compares to his counterparts in all other areas, your go to lines just don't take reality into account.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Can confirm that the #Celtics & RFA Avery Bradley have agreed to a deal. Terms: 4-year-deal worth $32 million.

Yeah, as much as I like Bradley, I'm not loving that.  Overpaying role players seems like a recipe for long-term lack of flexibility.

Yea very unfortunate  :-[

Should have been 3 years $18 mil, not a dollar more!!

7 hours later...still angry. Unless this is some sign and trade Bradley for 50 games a year was not worth this.

At this point give me Gerald Green's 3 year 10mil contract! I'll trade Jeff Green or Avery for him to get this cap back in order.
