I wish we at least would have tried for monroe

Monroe very likely is going to get the max.  Monroe isn't good enough for the Celtics to justify the moves needed to acquire a max free agent.

the issue with thinking the cap will go up $3+ million every year it that it absolutely will not. yes it will go up again next year by a good amount, but then the owners will opt out of the current CBA after the 2016-17 season.

If one side opts out, it's going to be the players not the owners.  The owners got a rather one-sided deal last time and the players deserve to get back some of what they lost.

Exactly.  Not to mention the NBA will sign a new national broadcast deal for the 2016-2017 season, which will give a boost to league revenues as well.

The offseason to keep cap room for is 2016, when there's that big spike.  Conveniently that's when Wallace's and possibly Green's contracts will run their course.  Also conveniently, that's when KD will hit free agency.

$32 million for Bradley?

What a huge mistake.

Too small, too fragile, and not very good. What a waste of money.

And, pray tell, what would be your alternative use of that money?

I don't think anyone needs to have an alternative plan for the money in order to have an opinion on this specific deal.  Personally, I think they overspent on AB.  Do I have an alternative plan?...No.  I am not the GM of the Boston Celtics.  But, if I was, I wouldn't have given AB $8mil per year.  And, apparently, I am not the only person that has this opinion....

Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Buried somewhere in this thread is a post I made saying I wouldn't have paid $8 mil/year for Bradley, either.

I do think that calling it "a waste of money" implies that you have a better idea as to how that money might have been spent, and its totally fair to ask for more than a one sentence answer (not that homeboy has any, it seems -- he wanted to 'sign a big.')

Context is everything when you're talking about player contracts, after all.

Question for the resident capologists. How does this effect C's cap space??

When I first read this, I was skimming and thought the OP was asking about the resident cardiologists.

All I could think was, they'll be getting a lot more work once people see the numbers.

Jay King apparently didn't talk to the same source(s) who just last week said that Bradley would likely get a bid from $7 to $9 mil on the market.

Well, you're also talking about someone who thinks Rondo should be traded but never offers up a solution for who/what.  And thinks that he's the 29th worst PG in the league.

So....  :P

Down the road...maybe.

However you still need a guard rotation.   This seems to be a pretty solid one on paper right now.

Content with the signing.  Generally think the opinion of Bradley on here is too negative - he's a good player.  Not a go-to scorer, but if you go to the aquarium expecting an otter to act like a shark then you're going to end up disappointed.  Otters are really good at being otters, though.  A little more money than I was admittedly hoping, but not by so much that I'm upset about it.

He is more valuable to the Celtics than any other team. The reason is he is a great pairing with both rondo and soon smart, possibly young as well to hide his defense.

3 guard rotation of Rondo/Smart/Bradley

Young won't see much minutes in my opinion or will be bouncing between SG and SF

I think that source is wrong.  There are probably teams out there that are interested in making a run at Lance Stephenson.  The teams that fail would have turned to Bradley as the next best option.  After all, they'll tell themselves, Bradley had the higher ppg.  One of those teams might decided that it's better to overpay and give Bradley $9-10m, hoping that the Celtics find that too rich to match, rather than letting their cap space lie fallow.

Even if the source is correct that no team would offer more than $8m, that still technically allows for another team to offer exactly $8m and not a penny more.

I get the sense that Young is more of a SF anyways.
