In watching Marcus Smart the last two years and then really looking at him these last few months I never have and don't see the rose or Westbrook comparisons. I don't see rose at all. I see how he attacks the hoop and how people can get carried away with that but Marcus doesn't possess that kind of explosion or athleticism.

I think wade is a stretch as well. Wade played much more above the rim then Marcus and his first step was more explosive. Hey wade, Russ, and rose are some of the best to ever do it and thinking Marcus will be that caliber is a lot to expect.

When I see Marcus I see a lot of tyreke Evans. He's more passionate and unselfish then tyreke however. Tyreke was a beast his rookie year and a great prospect. I doubt Marcus has that kind of coming out party but I think his ceiling is greater then Evans. Especially if he improves his shot.

If Marcus can make defenses stay honest with his shot then I think his ceiling is baron Davis when focused. Baron was right up there with the best of them when dialed in. He had the size, creativity, and basketball iq to take over games and series. Baron was ridiculed for his shot coming out of college and he got better. He was streaky but he kept defenses honest.

Marcus is hard working, humble, and driven. I think this kid can realize his potential and make a few all star teams along the way. Just improve the shot and keep the turnovers down.

Defensively Tony Allen.  Offensively Derron Williams without the shooting touch.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I would love him to reach the Baron Davis level offensively as he is already an all-nba type defensive player.

I love this. If he reaches Baron Davis level then we had a good night at Draft Night. And I can see why. Physical guard who's athletic and can do so many things, I'm excited just thinking about it.

I think it's DWade. Wade was quicker, but Smart is stronger, significantly stronger.

Wade tried to bulk up to 225, but his thinner bones couldn't handle the weight and he lost some effectiveness and became injury prone.

Smart has naturally stronger/thicker bones, so he carries his 227 much more naturally.

Smart might not have as many great highlights as Wade, but he could be just as effective with his strength advantage making up for his quickness disadvantage to Wade.

Once you see Smart on the court next to Williams you'll see just how much stronger and bigger than Williams Smart is. Not knocking your comparison, I just can't wait until Smart starts pushing around guys like DWill and DWade and letting them know there's a new boss in town.

DWIll yes, but DWade is very comparable in size which I do not see him bullying Wade...made a crippled Wade, as he is deteriorating but not a healthy primed Wade

But still a good sign if he can bully around people like Chris Paul or DWill, very very good sign

I'm still fascinated by his quickness and explosiveness for a 6'4", 230 lb guy...this guy is no Felton, he isn't fat...he is ALL muscle

Lebron James at 6'4'' and a better shot. He is a better shooter than people think with an easy fixable shot. Theres a new Sheriff in town!

I think the Baron Davis comp is an interesting one (hadn't heard it before).  I see Smart as a good defender from the jump of his NBA career (more than I'd say for Davis) which is a nice combo.

I do think Wade is a worthwhile comparison, but he isn't that explosive of an athlete as Wade (I think we forget how crazy he was early in his career).  But Smart is bigger and should have a better shot.

And lets keep in mind how great Wade has been.  One of the best SGs ever.  So don't expect him to be Wade.  Lets hope for even close.

Definitely not Wade and his game doesn't even resemble Tyreke Evans'. He's not as quick off the dribble and doesn't have Tyreke's handles. I like the Jason Kidd comparison. Strong, Big bonded, large point guards. I think Marcus Smart is an underrated creator and passer. He also is good in the post like kidd. neither are super athletes though Smart may be better. Kidd was a pretty bad shooter when he entered the league but he developed into an excellent shooter, like i hope Smart can do
