best case scenario = Kawhi Leonard/ lance stephenson
Really?  Small forwards?

style of play

all 3 can handle the ball, make plays, have great motors, and can guard 3 positions

I'm a huge fan of Smart but I don't see how he can guard the SF spot in the NBA.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Smart isn't nearly as quick with his handles and doesn't change of direction or pace like Harden or other good scoring guards do. Plus he isn't as good a shooter and should be a lot better defensively.

I think the Baron Davis comp is an interesting one (hadn't heard it before).  I see Smart as a good defender from the jump of his NBA career (more than I'd say for Davis) which is a nice combo.

I do think Wade is a worthwhile comparison, but he isn't that explosive of an athlete as Wade (I think we forget how crazy he was early in his career).  But Smart is bigger and should have a better shot.

And lets keep in mind how great Wade has been.  One of the best SGs ever.  So don't expect him to be Wade.  Lets hope for even close.

Baron Davis a better ball handler and shooter.

He's going to get better. I can't wait for him to play. Don't forget he had the best stats of any prospect in the draft (or something like that).

I have always used Tyreke Evans as his comp...I do believe Evans is quicker and a little more explosive, but Smart is a MUCH better defender and I like his shot better.

I think Smart was overlooked during the pre-draft process because he came back for a 2nd season, which opens him up to more criticism. I love him as a player, so much so that I don't even want to entertain the thought of him getting dealt down the road for another piece.

I've always used 'Reke, too. My suspicion is that Evans is probably a better ball handler.

Well he said he wants the chance to guard Lebron, we shall see....

I honestly think Smart will be a multiple time all-star and he will be in the discussion for top 5 PG by his 3rd or 4th year. His blend of skills and attitude/passion will make this kid a star. Awesome pick.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

I never really thought about Baron Davis. Physically, they do look similar. Davis is listed at 6'3" and 219 lbs. Smart is listed at 6'4" and 225 lbs.  But I think Davis is a better ball handler/shooter. Of course, Smart is only 20 years old and can obviously improve in certain areas of his game. At least, unlike Rondo, he's already an average FT shooter. So he's got that going for him lol. If he can develop into an average outside perimeter shooter in the next couple of years, he's gonna have a very good career.

I dont see the Evans/Wade comparisons. Both of those guys are better athletes/ball handlers imo.

There is no doubt I am not a Smart fan if being a fan is seeing him as a consistent all-star. I see him as a slightly more athletic and slightly taller young Derrick Fisher. A bulldog on defense and show splashes of offense now and then but will never be a top of the line offensive player. He could be a piece on a championship team but not one of the top 2-3 stars on the championship team.

I know it's not real game footage, but handle looks fine to me.  Baron Davis was something of a wizard handling the ball, but Smart is in the same league as DWade.

How many of you would be comparing him to DWade if he was drafted 8th by the kings or somethjng ?

I think we got the 5th or 6th best player in this draft.  Maybe 8th if randle and vonleh beast.  Sounds like he will be a solid player.   I haven't heard anyone serious compare him to DWade... I've heard tony Allen or poor man's Eric Bledsoe.   The Tyreke thing sounds more obtainable.

Way more advanced offensively than Tony Allen.  Bledsoe is 6'1".  Smart has a 6'9" wingspan and can play above the rim.  Tyreke is a decent comparison, but Smart is more of a menace on defense.  It's an insult to call him a poor man's Bledsoe.  He projects as better than Bledsoe.
