There's been too much smoke coming out of Sacramento for there to be no fire, in my opinion. I think that we're getting McLemore and a Brooklyn-esque, ultra-high-variance 1st rounder. The reason it hasn't happened yet is because they have to fix things with Detroit first.

Put it this way.  If there is a 50/50 chance of playing the season with Rondo and adding a player like Love next offseason vs. watching Rondo leaving as a free agent, do you take that risk?  Or do you trade the mid round pick for Rondo now?  I think you would have to take the risk.

I'd say a big trade involving Rondo is very unlikely.

I think Rondo either stays or leaves during FA for nothing or for pennies on the dollar in a S&T.

I think Ainge will hold onto Rondo until 2015 FA and try to convince him to stay. If Ainge makes a big move, I like the chances of Rondo staying. If Ainge does not, then it gets murky and Rondo could leave during FA with BOS getting little or nothing in return (late first or pair of 2nd rounders or role player youth).

I agree with this.  I do think it gets murkier if Ainge doesn't make a big move.  On the other hand, I think there are smaller moves Ainge could make that would entice Rondo to stay.

Either way, I'd rather see Danny take that gamble than see him cynically traded away now because most of the media and half the fan based are convinced Rondo's on his way out the door.

Completely different scenarios.  Kevin Love has made it very clear that he has no desire to stay in Minnesota, while Rondo has repeatedly said that he would like to stay a Celtic. 

Also, it looks like Flip might actually be holding onto Love and hoping to convince him to stay rather than taking back less value than he thinks he's worth despite the adamant protestations of his best player that he's on his way out of Minnesota.

I don't think we are getting those guys in return for Rondo, because I imagine that their respective teams are happy with their starting point guards.  Luckily, I also think Danny is happy with his.

You don't trade your star for pennies. You either trade them for another star or a high lottery pick, a young player with a star potential. So far, I see nothing like these offered on the table.

Unless you are 100% sure of signing a big time free agent, trading a star for a bag of cheetos is a very bad move.

That's true, but you must be able to admit that his stance on possibly staying a Celtic once he hits free agency has been vastly different than Kevin Love's stance on staying a Timberwolf.
