Boston Celtics: Landed a combo guard who could eventually replace Rajon Rondo with Marcus Smart and a plug-and-play wing who can cruise into a starting position if necessary. Smart is a risk because he can't hit from the outside and has shaky shot selection. But he's also strong as an ox and the Celtics defense only gets better with him on the floor. He can stuff stats and produce.

James Young can hit from the outside and right now is able to fill in a least admirably for Jeff Green even if he can't score to that degree. He can hit from the outside and get up and down the floor. It's a great combination for Boston, which has a really great young core to build around.

Now to figure out what to do with Rondo ...

What to do with Rondo? You keep him and play him next to Marcus Smart, who's a SG who can make plays.

SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal

I like Rondo / Smart as a rugged version of the Suns' two guard offense they ran last year.  Rondo and Smart both have nasty mean streaks to them, would be great to see them playing together with a chip on their collective shoulder

We did win. Now we have to figure out how to get Randle/Vonleh from LAL or Cha.

a 4-guard rotation of Rondo, Smart, AB and Young would be one of the best in the league, if not the best in a couple of years.  even if they don't sign AB, I could see a Detroit Bad-Boys backcourt rotation of Rondo, Smart and Young being nearly as effective as Thomas, Dumars and Johnson eventually (until Rondo and Smart become legit 3-pt threats, they won't reach that level but they'll be better at driving to the hoop and passing)

Why would the Celtics use the 6th pick in the draft on a guard who needs the ball in his hands to be successful.... to have him play next to a PG who needs his ball in the hands to be successful? On a team that's more than likely headed to the lottery again?

And who on earth believes Rondo is going to hand over running the offense to Smart half the time? Think Ainge imagines that's gonna work?

Dude's getting traded.

Marcus Smart and James Young are two guys that play and score and Smart is also a hard nose defender. For where the Celtics picked in the draft, they are winners. Nice job Danny!

People need to watch the NBA more I guess.

YOU CAN NOT HAVE 2 GUARDS ON THE COURT TOGETHER THAT CAN'T SHOOT!!!

Leaves no spacing and teams just clog the lane.

I hope Smart is a player, but I will say this for 1,000th time already:

RONDO AND SMART CAN NOT PLAY TOGETHER!!

Can't question the Smart pick even though it doesn't thrill me. I thought we'd take Vonleh given his unique physical attributes and overall upside.

Smart is going to be nasty, tough and relentless day 1. I bet he's just a beast and fan favorite from the beginning.

James Young I know nothing about. I was hoping for TJ Warren (gone) or Kyle Anderson (Spurs!) but I bet this is a good pick also.

Where is the rim protection coming from??

This article also highlights how great the Knicks did to get into the draft and come away with Cleanthony Early and the other Greek Freak. What a double steal that was!! Incredible really.

I was kind of hoping we'd be SUPERDOOPER winners, but I can't argue with the fact that we used those picks wisely. If you were to rank the lottery players in terms of how sure you were that they would be at least above-average starters in the NBA, the top 3 would have been Parker Randle and Smart. So... we got a sure thing at 6. Furthermore, Smart is seemingly the only player that every single independent analytical model endorses. The risk-takers who drafted ahead of us did us the favor of essentially forcing us to take him. You can't complain about it.

On Young... it's the 17th pick. There are no slam dunk picks at #17. As a young freshman, he was the 2nd best scorer on the 2nd best team in the NCAA. That's a pretty darn rare pedigree to find at that slot.

So yeah, there aren't any fabled, ultra-hyped superheroes on their way to Boston, but we basically crushed it.

Who do you guys think are the biggest winners, by the way? The Heat, the Knicks, and the Thunder all did great for themselves, I thought, but the team that really moved the needle was the Nuggets. Two mid-1sts and a 2nd and they managed to get the best 2-way shooting guard in the draft and a pair of young, skillful, humungous bigs.

Exactly.  It's funny him as a replacement because to me he is not a PG by any stretch.  SGs can pass and make plays, many of the best have.

I don't see him running an NBA offense.

I couldn't agree more. If the finals showed us anything this year it's that floor spacing is huge.
