I was kind of hoping we'd be SUPERDOOPER winners, but I can't argue with the fact that we used those picks wisely. If you were to rank the lottery players in terms of how sure you were that they would be at least above-average starters in the NBA, the top 3 would have been Parker Randle and Smart. So... we got a sure thing at 6. Furthermore, Smart is seemingly the only player that every single independent analytical model endorses. The risk-takers who drafted ahead of us did us the favor of essentially forcing us to take him. You can't complain about it.
On Young... it's the 17th pick. There are no slam dunk picks at #17. As a young freshman, he was the 2nd best scorer on the 2nd best team in the NCAA. That's a pretty darn rare pedigree to find at that slot.
So yeah, there aren't any fabled, ultra-hyped superheroes on their way to Boston, but we basically crushed it.
Who do you guys think are the biggest winners, by the way? The Heat, the Knicks, and the Thunder all did great for themselves, I thought, but the team that really moved the needle was the Nuggets. Two mid-1sts and a 2nd and they managed to get the best 2-way shooting guard in the draft and a pair of young, skillful, humungous bigs.
