I am just wondering if the bad taste left by the Garnett fleecing has blackballed us from this process?

It's not so much the Garnett deal as it is what Denver got for Carmelo Anthony and even what the Celtics got for Pierce and Garnett.  Minnesota has examples to look at that motivate them to hold out for maximum value.

The Celtics still have the best long term assets to offer Minnesota, but I think its pretty obvious that Flip Saunders is an extremely stubborn, ignoramus.

At this point, the only way the Celtics get love is to sign him as a free agent in 2015. However, whatever team trades for Love is probably going to get him to sign an extension, so its probably over. Not completely over, but pretty much a long shot.

I think Danny Ainge understands this. He tried. I think he goes into this season looking for another lottery pick and hoping Smart, Young, KO, Sullinger develop into real players.

If he can trade Gerald Wallace's contract somehow, we will be real players in the 2015 free agency.

Yup. I like your thinking. Develop talent, continue to accumulate talent, and then sign Love

I understand your desire to keep Smart out of the deal but don't you think that Saunders would insist in order to, in my opinion and probably his, upgrade from the very ordinary Rubio. The other question I would have is will Smart ever be able to shoot well enough to play the 2 with an already mediocre shooter like Rondo at the 1? Thanx for the Bogans clarification.

I think the prospect of getting more picks in return would sweeten the deal. I think Rondo/Smart can actually work out perfectly, in fact... People say Bradley/Rondo is a great deadly and defensive/speedy duo. I think Smart/Rondo> Bradley/Rondo... What Bradley lacks in terms of overall passing, finishing, being able to defend stronger opponents, and just having an overall general feel for the game is what Smart has in sheer amounts. Bradley has the better shooting form, and I actually think in the future, Bradley's ability to knock down mid range/3pt will be above the league average.

Rondo/Smart is a deadlier defending back court, and Rondo can easily get Smart better shots inside, where Smart can either finish, get the and one, go to the foul line, or is SMART, (no pun intended,) enough to be able to dish it off to a teammate for a better shot.

I like Bradley. I want to keep him. I just don't think his ability to think outside of the box other than defending, and taking the shots off the screen/catch and shoot convinces me enough that Bradley will ever become anything more than a role player/Defensive first/second Tony Allen type of guy with a better shot.

We have always had the best assets to get K Love. But Flip Saunders wants a completely one sided deal according to sources on other threads here. This is what happens when you put a man with a complex in a very powerful position, part owner/gm/coach/president

some above noted how flip will want smart and want max value back for love and then mentioned the Melo deal....

That was a special scenario. NYK had sucked and needed a change to make them relevant again. It was desperation. Melo also agreed to an extension right when the trade went down.

Love killed the Cavs/Wolves deal earlier.

Among the bidders for Love, he has only shown interest to resign with GSW or BOS. I think GSW is done dealing with Flip and his crap as they don't wanna get rid of Klay in this deal.

Denver can offer but I think Love may kill that too.

There's a chance that Chicago gets back into the love talk but I think Melo ends up there ending that scenario.

So when it comes down to it, Love will give word that he's willing to resign here and we'll be the only legit team offering in 2-3 weeks.

Smart and Young are going no where. AB + Sully OR Oly + 2 picks and we have Love.
Flip backed himself into this corner and he aint getting off easy

I hope so.

I don't mind taking on bad contracts like Martin/Brewer. I WANT to keep Smart, because he is the type of guy you need alongside Rondo. The leadership and that mentality to push ON when your tired, and fatigued is something you CANNOT teach. Its something you're born with.

And I think everyone thinks prospects can't immediately have an immediate impact. I think Smart is the type of player like Kawhi Leonard, Davis, where they have a great overall game, but because defense is their best attribute its easier for them to have a quick impact off the jump.

Smart, Rondo, Love, with Young coming off the bench, and putting the right pieces imo is a championship type of team.

Flip wants a taste of the play-offs; He IMHO covets David Lee and Klay Thompson.

He who covets first round exits and mediocrity. Gotcha.

Hes making the same exact mistake Khan is doing...

houston has a deal in place for lin to create cap space...that means carmelo...not love...then...love has to choose from boston or chicago...i think we have a better offer than chicago...more importantly...i think love wants boston instead of taking a chance on an injury prone rose...

Houston is going for LBJ first.

I think Houston could land LBJ to be honest.

For LBJ its Miami or Houston imo. Hopefully he goes to Houston to get outta the East and so Melo goes to Chicago then we get Love

What about the Nugs?

Faried
Affalo
WChandler
Gary Harris
Picks/filler

Love/Martin

Minny could be solid if Flip gets Rubio to over achieve:
RR, AFfalo, WChan, Faried, Pek

And Denver too?
Lawson, Foye, Martin, Love, Hickson

Until you realize Love will not re-sign with the Nuggets.

Saunders not trading Love during draft day limits his flexibility and ability to bargain for assets. Now he has to be on equal terms in leverages/agreements. I think Love will end up on GSW/BOS/HOU/CHI. I'm leaning towards GSW/BOS being the top two contenders.

I think both the Bulls and Rockets are after Anthony and/ or Lebron, failing that they may go after Love. The Nuggets assets don't really make Minny much better.

I think the Celtics still have the best mix of talent and picks for a rebuild at Minny, lets face it, they're not going to contend right away with any of the other assets being offered. So they have no option but to rebuild. It all comes down to IF Flip sees is that way.
