That second tweet scares me.

Danny getting the 8th pick for a role player in Rondo would be the 2nd smartest move he's made in Boston. First obviously being the Nets trade. Rondo is the most overrated player in the NBA period. I'd love to see Boston get Aaron Gordon 8th and pair him up with Embiid.

Ha.

I just have to shake my head at some of this stuff now.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Simmons is way off. Rondo's not being traded.

Danny will keep him until free agency 2015-16 and see who they can put together then if nothing works out now.

If Flip keeps Love, then we can do a S&T with them for Love at free agency,  just send them way less picks/assets. We'd still have the best to offer and other teams won't give up anything for him either.
Danny is ready either way.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Not a bad idea.

Keep Rondo, be somewhat respectable this year and then go for the "free agent kill" next summer (whether that's Love, Gasol, LMA or whoever. Who knows maybe even Lebron or Bosh is a possibility one year from now.)

In the meantime, Ainge can keeping shedding payroll this season (find a way to deal Green, Bass and maybe even Wallace.)

I must say, I do like the idea of going into the summer of 2015 with having kept our 2014 draft picks, having even more assets at our disposal and the ability to offer a truckload of cash to a prime free agent or 6.

Nobody wants Rondo.
That's why he hasn't been traded yet.

Danny does. That's why he hasn't been traded yet. Anyone who follows the league more than casually has heard plenty of rumors about teams calling Ainge about Rondo.

Rondo is not the player he once was and never will be.

He ranked 29th in PER among point guards this year and 14th the year before that.

Sure, he developed some bad habits and last year he was recovering from injury, but the big thing is that more good young PGs have come into the league.

So you want to get rid on a triple double machine All-Star, and get a kid that already has back and foot problems and team him up with a kid that can not hit a free throw to save his life? ::)

THink about how valuable Isaiah Thomas would've been 10 years ago. Someone would've given that lil guy a 12 million dollar salary.

Now Jordan Crawford can put up decent numbers if he's given consistent time. Seems like every other team has 2 guys who can start at the point for about 15 teams in the league.

It's being reported all day that the Sixers are interested in Embiid, I guess to eventually, when healthy, to create a twin towers situation with Noels. They could be quite a force but it  will take a while.  If this is true and not just posturing that leaves us without Embiid . If Wolves senior management is really uninterested in all our draft choices and the ability to reconfigure their roster, then we will also be without Love. Incredibly foolish of them. At that point, we should draft Gordon at 6, trade Rondo to Sacramento for 8, Thomas and filler then take Stauskas(love that 44% from beyond the arc). At 17 it has also been reported that Milwaukee would move Henson for a mid 1st round pick, so I would do that too. It's not even near the end of our rebuilding process but it is a good start.

Love is a Pipe dream. Simmons, Ian Thompson might have it right.

End of the day, nobody wants to end up like the Knicks. Bringing in Anthony to pair with Rondo = disaster with or without Love. Both have issues and always will. I believe players like Rondo and Anthony are about one thing, themselves.
Sounds great on paper, to risky without a head coach named Jackson or Popovich.

If Im Ainge, young Coach = young Team oriented players. Dealing Rondo in that scenario is a must.

Im on the phone with Houston. Asik or Parsons + Houston has a low first and a high 2nd rd pick. Both Teams have flexibility. Ainge knows McHale. Thats the deal Im looking for.

Point guard? If the Cash is there, Lowry. Its about Defense, defense and more defense surrounded by players who fit the TEAM concept. See Spurs..

Youth and SMART free agent signs and trades might have us waiting a few more years, but it would be worth the wait.

I don't see why we take Houston's garbage for RR, at least take the King's 8th or Lakers 7th if available.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Your right about the Lakers and Kings. I just don't see the Lakers NOT taking a young player at 7 since they never have a chance at top picks. With the Kings it could be a sign ability concern.
Your right, I'd take either of those deals and runnnnnnn!

PER isn't the be all and end all. He was 18th among point guards in PER in 2012 when he was 3rd team all-nba and a dominant player in the postseason. There's no reason to say he won't be as good or better than he was in the past.
