If he's there at #6, you really have to ask yourself "Why?".

It's going to be because medical reports & red flags.  Not promising news.  If he slips to #6, it means that team doctors think this guy's injuries are a real concern going forward.  Teams aren't drafting him because they're incompetent, its for good reason.

So why waste the #6 pick on Embiid?  If he's there at #6, it's not for good reason.  I'm probably passing.

By that same logic, we should have passed on Sullinger.  Did you oppose that pick when it was made?

Not exactly the same level or logic.

#6 overall & #21 overall in an NBA draft are very different situations.   I've always felt fine going with the whole idea of "risk/reward" thing in the latter part of an NBA draft.  Even the lower 15 picks or so.  Given the history & nature of lower first round picks, I don't really mind rolling the dice on guys when you're drafting later in the draft.

#6 overall is a whole different can of worms in my books.  You're drafting guys there who are potentially franchise guys or guys who can be 10 year starters for you.   I don't think you should reach or roll the dice when you're picking that high in a draft.

Maybe I'm too conservative but, also, seeing the potential of Embiid, the only thing that will hold his game back at the NBA level are injuries.  If he's healthy, he's going to be the real deal.  He's not dropping to 6 unless things are really bad medically.  And I'd rather not throw away a top 10 pick there on that.

I think you are too conservative.  And I llike taking risk too much!!

I think the opinion of "If the doctors clear him, I'd pick him" are a little misguided. He'd only be available if five other teams of doctors with millions of dollars and in some cases maybe their careers riding on this draft were to pass on him. If he clears or is close to checking out, he's the number one pick. If the Cs pick him it will be a HUGE gamble. So if he's healthy in any way, he's not available, and if he's not, we won't want to pick him.

Pretty much what I've been trying to say.  However, evidently, we're the only ones who have a competent medical staff in the NBA.   Because, you know, Sully.

BOLD PREDICTION:
Embiid is going to fall to PDX and promptly become the next Kareem, only to be seduced away to the Knicks in his first UFA season and become the next Amar'e.

Is BOLD PREDICTION the same as a HOT SPORTS TAKE?

Dude did you miss all of the game threads this year?

someone else (I forget who, sorry!) and I did them, like, all year.

They can't be BOLD if they're not OUTLANDISH

e.g. Jared Sullinger goes 9-9 from deep, grabs 15 boards, dishes 8 dimes.

Etc.

Joel Embiid has suffered stress fracture in right foot and slated for surgery on Friday, agent Arn Tellem says.

The stress fracture is in the navicular bone in Embiid's right foot.

Says Tellem, "Joel will be unable to participate in any additional workouts, and will not attend the draft in New York."

I don't see how he gets past the Jazz or Orlando but if he falls on our lap you take him.

The man is having surgery and is back with rumors that his physical with the Cavs didn't go to well. He's most likely falling.

Aww, I was kinda hoping for the spectacle of a top pick hobbling on stage in crutches.  "I'm finally a professional athlete, ma!" *gingerly limps on stage wincing*

My guess was a stress fracture, since the timing of the incident seemed to be unknown.

I had a stress fracture in my foot and it didn't start hurting until the next day.

I got mine in the spring, after not exercising hardly at all during the winter and then going out for a 3 mile jog on weak under-used bones.

Embiid missing all that time with his back injury, and then working out extremely hard could have caused his foot to be vulnerable to a stress fracture.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless I was drafting top 3.

I believe Woj said that the injury is a fracture, so that's not good.  Now, if this is a one time thing, I'd still take him in a heartbeat, but we'll have to see.  Embiid could be your foundation for the next 15-18 years, if he continues to make the kind of progression that he's showed thus far.  Orlando and Utah won't pass on him, though, but on the bright side, this may at least help us get Smart.  That is, of course, assuming that the Jazz and Magic draft the bpa.  Who would you rather have - Enes Kanter, who hasn't panned out, or Nikola Vucevic, who has turned out to be a very talented player, but he's not on Embiid's level as a franchise-type guy, like Dwight or Shaq.  What happened with the coin flip?  Obviously, we lost, so I'm more interested in the details.  Did we pick heads or tails?

On another front, all of this speculation is killing me, ugh.  I just want the draft to be here already.  Can't we just speed up the process of knowing the order by doing something really out there - like calling a psychic?  I'm only being slightly sarcastic here.  Just don't call miss Cleo  ::)  Haha, does anyone know anyone with such abilities?  It couldn't hurt, and could potentially be very entertaining, depending upon the accuracy of the prediction/reading, or whatever the kids are calling such things nowadays  ;)

Is there an octopus for the nba draft yet?  Someone get on that  ;D

If we're speculating that Embiid is out of the top 3, who would be your new top 3?
