I don't get why people are hoping that he falls to us now. Unless the redflags can be fixed like Sully, and you can wait an other year for him to come back, why take him if he can't play effectively?

Unless our doctors can promise they can fix is, multiple red flags you don't take at 1-10. I don't care how big he is, how good he looked when he was playing. If he can't get his back side on the court, that a HUGE waste of a pick. Plus we already have one player that is still questionable back issues.

Now if he falls to 17th now like Sully did, sure why not if there is nothing better.

Well the Celtics desperately need a big man, and Embiid is the best fit. I can see Danny taking a risk on him like he did with Sullinger.

At 6, that's one helluva gamble.

I don't see any logical reason why Cleveland would throw this out there to purposely effect his stock negatively if it weren't true.

Agreed. If nothing else, it lessens the trade value of the pick.
Even if there are red flags I'd understand Ainge grabbing him if he actually falls to us.

I wouldn't be shocked if another team above us thought the same thing though if the Cavs pass. 76ers have shown they'll go after injured talent certainly.

Getting Embiid or Wiggins was my hope going into the lottery. Now its just landing Kevin Love, I guess this puts Embiid back into play potentially.

I would be excited to be able to draft Embiid but gambling on a guy's health is scary. People could fondly look back at the Sully pick and say he was a steal, or look at Portland's Oden pick and shake their head.

I think Danny is crazy enough to risk it. If he can stay healthy, Embiid could be very good in the future.

True sometimes it pays off sometimes it doesn't, but I'm not willing to pass on the raw potential, especially if you're out of the top three.

The Sully gamble made a lot more sense to me since we were drafting in the 20s anyways and might as well try risk/reward at that point.

Doing it at #6 is a lot different.

Nice...maybe then we can draft a guy with back problems

Sweet!

Yeah, I would take him at #6, assuming he's going to be cleared to play.

Yeah, if Parker and Wiggins go 1-2, who would Philly take over Embiid's potential?  They've already got a big comboish PG in Carter-Williams; while they might go for a super-big versatile backcourt with Exum or Smart, I think they'd rather have a shooter at the 2.  Unless they really love Vonleh or Gordon it seems like Embiid would be worth a shot.

I think if he does drop to us we've gotta grab him, unless there's something seriously degenerative about his condition.  But I can't imagine 5 teams passing on the potential of an elite two-way C.

It's not like you're drafting at the top three. The Celtics need a center, and Embiid could be their best and cheapest option out there.

I wonder if Utah would grab him.......

I don't care if there are red flags. If we can't get love , I am all for drafting Embiid if he falls to # 6. The guy is the complete package. Great shot blocker/rim defender, has a very good 15 ft J, great foot work and moves in the low post , and can already pass effectively out of the double team .  He has a much higher ceiling than anyone else who will be available around that pick .

if he is an injury risk, it's too high of a gamble for any team. in embiid's case he was already going to be a project. I say he falls out of the lottery, if he is a major injury risk and the report is true.

but there were reports supposedly of other teams working him out and the reports were all positive. sooooo...who knows? this is Cleveland this could all be a smoke screen from them because they don't want to draft him but they don't want to look like idiots for taking Porzingis #1 overall.

Didn't the positive workouts came from Cleveland though?

So what are the chances of the Celtics getting Embiid now?

Without trading up, still basically 0.  Too much potential there.

EDIT:  Unless the medical reports are REALLY bad, in which case we might not want him anyway.

In any other year I'd agree with you, but this year the opportunity cost might be too high.  There appear to be 6 or 7 perennial all stars in this draft, and guys like Smart, Exum,or Randle could emerge as the best player out of this draft, and guys like Vonleh and Gordon could have very long impactful careers in the NBA.  If this "rumor" is true, don't be surprised to see him fall.  Last years draft was weak and had pretty much a clear cut head and shoulders above the rest number 1 in Noel and he took a dive.
