Here is what a Bull's beat writer thinks of the Chicago deal that Jackie outlined and the OP's post indirectly references back to:
"The story includes this paragraph: ?The Timberwolves privately maintain they already have fielded better offers from other teams, among them the Chicago Bulls, who can offer draft picks and some combination of Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson along with Carlos Boozer, whose bloated $16.8 million contract expires next summer and represents the kind of cap space rebuilding teams crave. ... This sounds like a Bulls' fantasy scenario. It's doubtful any team craves Boozer's contract. Anyway, it's likely every team in the league has inquired about Love's availability, given the circumstances."
http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/7931That's consistent with I have read in the Wolves and Bulls forums and elsewhere and why a Chicago deal doesn't seem likely given Chicago's management. They have never paid the tax and the only way to avoid it in a Love transaction is to trade Boozer or amnesty him, which is decidely not their style either. Whatever the wisdom of the deal from the Bull's on-floor viewpoint is (and there's debate about that too, especially without an extension), Bull's management is notoriously cheap. There have been rumors of the Bulls pairing Boozer with a pick to move him, but you need a team like BOS or PHI who
might consider a salary dump like that. I think there's a much better chance that the Cs would do a salary dump trade with the Rockets and take on Asik than Boozer, who is on the decline, a PF, and a defensive liability.
The Chicago bit was the piece of Jackie's article that I thought was off. I do think it's 2/1 against us getting Love because I believe the T-Wolves will go for a veteran player centered package. That's the weakness of our offer. I look at the T-wolves and think they should step back a step and take a package where they get a young player or two, picks and cap relief. It's go for the playoffs now and be mired in mediocrity vs try to eventually contend. However, the T-Wolves owner is in the competency class with Dolan, Gilbet, and Sterling. I'm betting he goes for a package like GSW's if it gets sweeter and especially if a 3rd team will take David Lee. Houston may also put a deal together, though Anthony is their preferred target. I think Melo stays put, however, and then the Rockets will go after Love after ditching Asik and Lin.
We still have decent shot because there's not that much other competition especially since PHX appears unlikely to put Bledsoe in a deal.
