Yeah sorry, but after seeing Love in Boston and then hearing all these "Love was in Boston for basketball reasons" reports, I refuse to just throw cold water on this whole situation.
Had Love never came to Boston last week, then granted, there would be nothing to talk about.
But the fact not only was he in Boston, but made no intention of hiding the fact he was in Boston tells me there's something there.
I am not saying Love to Boston is a slam dunk, but I also think the chances of it happening are about 70% right now.
And then there's the optimist/dreamer in me that believes it's already a done deal
Again, why else would Love be in Boston last week? For the clam chowder?
And the Flip Saunders/Minnesota team owner part of the story, I feel, is meaningless.
lol. you are such a dreamer my friend. He can't control where he goes to.
You think the Wolves GM already heard Danny's offer and has already agreed to a deal?? He would be a stupid GM then. He has to hear what other teams have to offer also, play games to drive up the price
Danny also is cheap, has never overpaid and i doubt will .
Draft night can't come fast enough. When we don't get Love i bet there will be a riot in boston or something
it's no dream dude, it's naive of you to think that Love and his agent will not decide where he goes. He simply has to say that he won't re-sign if he is traded to a team that he doesn't like. This is how the NBA works. This is how all of the other star player trades were done. Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard (even though he changed his mind and screwed over the lakers, he originally wanted to go there).
he won't guarantee he will resign. He can say he will be interested but he won't guarantee it
He wants everything as a FA i promise you this. If next season the team he is traded to tanks or somebody gets injured, he is prob not going to resign. He has this power
Say if Rondo reinjures himself. Green stinks and we are close to how we were this season. We barely miss the playoffs. You think Love is going to want to stay? You think his agent is going to advise him to stay?
That's just stating that he has the option to change his mind next summer. He's human. As someone already noted, Dwight Howard did this.
But that is irrelevant to whether he has control over what happens THIS summer.
If he makes it cold-hard-fact-clear to some teams that he will NOT sign an extension OR re-up next summer, that will make them pull back or seriously curb their offers. No GM in his right mind is going to lay out a big offer, mortgaging his franchise' future for a player who states flatly he won't stay there. That GM would be crucified.
On the other hand, if Love simply tells a team that, while he won't sign an extension this summer, he fully intends to re-up after he hits FA, then that GM can lay out the goods. Then if Love pulls a Howard, he'll have the cover of painting the player as the villain.
In Boston's case, if Love DID end up 'pulling a Howard' and walking next summer on us, the situation would not be nearly as bad as it was for LA because the timing would coincide with the clearing of most of our contracts anyway so unlike LA, we would not be stuck holding a bunch of contracts for another year.
Consider the much-discussed "Love for Sully or KO plus picks & filler" and "Asik & Lin for cap space" deals. If those went through, we'd reach next summer with Asik/Lin/Love/Rondo all expiring (some 46.2M) and only Wallace & Green's player option as major commitments for 2015. So Danny has quite a bit of a cushion, should Love prove hard to keep on.
Love will likely not be so explicit as to demand he go to one and only one team. More likely he'll narrow it to a tiny handful and that will shrink the market from which Minnesota will have to choose the best offer.
