If people want Love so bad why not wait a year and then sign him as a free agent?  We could keep our assets and still get love!! People can say there is no guarantee we would get him then, but there is no guarantee he would re-sign either.

Bc ppl are not confident he will sign with the Celts.  So instead make him go through a test drive , make the playoffs and hope he stays

Ainge has a great relationship with Love's agent, and has stated it would make no sense for Love or Rondo to sign extensions now, they would lose money. This implies that if he trades for Love he has some assurances that Love will sign a max deal with us next summer.

How'd that attitude work out with the Lakers on Howard?

That's not the same thing at all. They had no assurances from his agent, and everyone could tell that he and Kobe were not going to get along. Ainge specifically said you have to take chances to improve.

Still, we would then have 2 stars that could walk in a year.  Then where would we be?
Not trying to be negative this just scares me.

If you look at good players who are available in trades it's either players near the end of their deal when the team thinks they won't re-sign or players who are on large multi-year deals that the team that signed them wants to get out from under. Pick your poison.

If Love says he will sign the extension, I trust him a lot more than Dwight Howard.

How do you trust a guy who is making all kinds of noise that he wants out?? If rondo reinjures himself, green sux again, we dont make the playoffs

You think love will resign?  Think again

He put up with the Wolves a lot longer than he could have.  He finally knows that they will never get their act together.

Because if the Celts trade for Love now, they can offer him more than any other team next year because they will have his Bird rights.

First I don't think Howard really wanted to go to LA. Kobe is a jerk to his teammates, Rondo is difficult, but not on Kobes level.

Plus if you don't bring him in, you have a better shot at loosing him to LA or any other team making room for him. And Love wants to leave now. Minni wants to start the rebuild now. They'll send him to either Huston,GSW,Chicago if Boston doesn't make a deal, and theres a good chance he stays in those cities.

Love will most likely okay a deal were he will want to resign with next season. So if it isn't Boston it's where ever Minni sends him. Bottom line is he's not playing for Minni next season, and Minni wants to rebuild starting now. You don't trade for him, most likely he wont come to Boston for less money than the team he okays a deal he gets traded to.

Either way your taking a huge risk. I'd go for the one we give a little up, and show him how great of a place Boston is to play for. Most guys like playing Boston once they get here. Unless the season goes to crap, I can't see why he wouldn't want to come back.

Dwight never promised anything, did he? I know he's a flake, but I don't remember him ever giving the Lakers a guarantee. The Lakers assumed he would stay because they couldn't imagine anyone not wanting to play for their historic and beloved franchise THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS.
