Like it or not, Ainge in driver's seat for Love

1.  Cavs will not offer #1 pick.
2.  Sixers will not offer #3 pick.
3.  Golden State will not offer Klay Thompson in a package.
4.  Wizards will not offer up Bradley Beal.
5.  Lakers and Knicks do not have the assets.
6.  Houston will not offer Harden, and otherwise do not have the assets.
7.  Chicago is interesting, but the best pick they can offer is #16.
8.  Ok City will not offer Westbrook.
9.  Pheonix is intriguing (like Chicago), but their best pick is #14. 

Multiple 1sts and Bledsoe from Suns might be closest, realistic competition.  But I believe Ainge can beat that too, IF HE WANTS TO DO SO. 

My final offer would be Sullinger, Bogans, Anthony + expirings, 2014 #6 pick, 2015 and 2016 Celtic 1sts.  Brooklyn picks?  NO.  Four 1sts?  NO.  Even the offer I have presented is probably too much. 

I also like the idea of trading our picks so Cs fans don't have to sit and cheer for losses at any point of the next two seasons.

I agree with above post.

Plus ....Celtics have an "ACE" in the hole .

They have Flip Saunders  as a GM friend.



Really think Danny can package a deal,that will suit both organizations.

I think Danny really has to decide ....do I go for the Star or grab Gordon /Vonleh and HOPE one of them becomes a great player.

I personally don't believe Danny has any intention on picking in the draft for the Celtics....I think Minn is deciding WHO they want..it's all a show ....

All,he needs is Love.

You can't trade consecutive 1st round picks, so your trade idea has to have some other creativity to get around it. Maybe the 2015 pick is the clippers pick, or it is a pick swap or something. But in general terms I agree with you. Three picks is the most I would do, and even then, I think it is over  paying. I think he is worth no more than two picks, but I would be willing to trade what is most likely a late 1st round pick with the clippers pick.

The Celtics can not have consecutive years with 1sts.


They have 2 this year, 2 next year and 2 the following year.  With this offer, the Celtics still have a pick every year so the offer fits the rules.

Isn't it true that you can trade as many firsts as you want....except if it leads to you having no firsts in two consecutive years?

So you can trade your own and keep some other team's first and it'd still count, right?

Yes, this is correct.  Additionally, if the trade is made after the pick has been made, it counts as the original team having made their pick, so a team would be able to trade all their picks in consecutive years this way.

Danny will 1st determine how impressive smart, randle, gordon are. In addition if another team picking earlier does think one two are,we could get someome like a exum to drop. Not likely but wiggins could drop

If he is not impressed by the likely 3 above, he will make try to make the trade imo

Nothing has been made certain he is after love on draft night.

Completely agree with the OP. Sully and three firsts for Love (this years 6 and 2 futures) for Love is on its way. The only change I see is that I think Danny can get the Wolves to bite on taking Wallace's contract to match salary because we are sending so many picks over. Wallace could provide the "veteran leadership" Minny is looking for and also provide them with a valuable expiring a year after they start their rebuild.

I think the Lakers could actually make a fairly attractive offer, but it would be during free agency because the Lakers would at that time potentially have cap room to absorb a lot of Minnesota's bad contracts.  For example, LA could trade Nash and whomever they drafted at 7 for Love, Martin, Brewer, Barea, and Budinger (or any such combination).  They could also sign and trade them Pau Gasol (who would be a decent fit next to Pekovic). 

Now obviously that can't happen until free agency and thus Minnesota wouldn't be able to control the 7th pick, but if LA took someone Minnesota was interested in at that spot that sort of trade could happen.

Chicago's best asset to offer is Nikola Mrotic.  He's 23, generally considered the best player in Europe, and would easily go in the top 5 if in this year's draft.  He's also a stretch 4, and so would be redundant with Love on the roster.  If I were Minny, and the Bulls offered me Mrotic, their two picks this year, and Boozer, I'd take that deal over the Celtics offer.

Of course, I think Mrotic is why the Bulls don't end up pursuing Love. With him and Gibson on the roster, adding Melo would make a lot more sense.  They have no real way of acquiring both Love and Melo.

I'd do the clippers pick in a package because the rule of not trading consecutive firsts. i would not give the 2017 unless its protected because we have the right to swap with BK. Therefore it's just as valuable as 2016/2018 BK picks. If they want a BK pick in the future instead of one of ours, maybe give them #17 instead of #6 this year. They prob won't bite but its worth a try.

As long as Abby Chin and Brad Stevens tell me the positives after each loss, I am all set.

No way does Gasol agree to go to Minnesota.  Also, I don't agree that Minny has that many bad contracts.  Barea isn't great, but he's expiring and makes half of what Nash makes.  Martin produced well for how he was paid.  Same with Brewer.  Now, Minny might have a few contracts that make more sense on a team with Love than without (Brewer is a 3 who's primary role is defense, which is fine when your PF throws up 26 per game), but that doesn't mean the Lakers are doing them a favor by taking them off Minny's hands.

The only way I see Love to the Lakers this summer is if no one steps up with anything else, and Minny is just desperate to trade him, or his agent forces Love there by telling other teams he intends to go to LA in free agency next summer, no matter what.  I don't see either of those things happening.  LA has very little to offer compared to other teams.  Cap room should not be important to Minnesota this year.  Getting the most for Love should be.

Good point. Only thing there though is if you're Pau Gasol, why would you agree to play in Minnesota?

Speaking of which, I thought sign and trades had to be a separate transaction from other players getting dealt. Is this true?
