The Celtics are about 1 thing, right? Championships. I watched the Heat game last night and one thing became clear. The Celts will not be winning a title with Lebron is in his prime. Not with Kevin Love and not with Carmello Anthony. Lebron will always be able to attract good role players to his team, wherever he goes.
The Celtics should be planning for the time when Lebron is past his prime. In other words, don't trade multiple draft picks for a chance to make the second round of the playoffs now.
Keep making picks, keep developing young players. This way the Cs will be well positioned as a contender in 3-5 years, when Lebron is beatable. He is not beatable right now.
Many people make this argument against trading picks for an all-star and though you bring up good points, I disagree.
I just refuse to believe that Lebron is not beatable.
No doubt he's the best player on the league right now. However, right now he also has the perfect mixture of talent around him.
Wade and Bosh are still very effective and even the complemantary guys like Ray, Battier and Birdman are firing on all cylinders.
In other words, right now EVERYTHING is going right for Miami.
If one or two pieces to the puzzle crumble or fall apart, it has a domino effect on Lebron and he is then more prone to being beat.
If Bosh leaves for free agency, if Wade suddenly becomes a part-time player because of his knees, if Ray and/or Battier retire then suddenly Miami is not the same.
Also, I just think both Love and Melo are much better players than people give them credit for and are bound to be champions themselves.
In my eyes, no one is unbeatable.
Also, let's not forget though Miami is killing Indiana right now, they'll still have to get through San Antonio.
