Honestly with these workouts happening, gm's like Danny might get reluctant to give up the 6th even for love.
If any of the top 6 or 7 becoming really good and Love doesn't resign, Ainge will be ridiculed for a long time.
I don't believe for a second that this is true. Kevin Love is in the tier below LeBron and Durant, with Howard, Aldridge, Paul, YES I SAID CHRIS PAUL, okay maybe not Chris Paul but Melo, whomever. If they're not named LeBron, Durant, Anthony Davis, or Chris Paul, there really isn't a guy in the league I think is head and shoulders above Kevin Love. Davis because of his potential future.
In any case Danny is not keeping A-A-Ron Gordon or anyone potentially going 6th back if it means acquiring Love or not.
Not that Danny will overpay, but just saying, Danny's not gonna hangup because Minnesota has the audacity to require the 6th be involved in any trade negotiations.
I thoroughly disagree...
* Howard is on a level above Love because he contributes on both ends of the floor, and he is a more efficient scorer than Love could ever hope to be, and because he's actually led teams deep in the playoffs (while Love has not played a single playoff gamein 8 seasons)
* Aldridge is on a level above Love for the same reason. He's a far more complete offensive player than Love is, and he also plays defense and has playoffs experience
* Paul is on a level above Love for, again, the same reason. He's a mult-time All Defensive team selection, and is still one of the best all-round offensive players in the league if you consider his total offensive package (jumpshot, ability to drive, free throw shooting, ball handling, passing, etc). Again, he's led teams to the playoffs, sometimes almost single handedly.
Love is easilly a tier below those guys. He is not just average or below average defensively, he is one of the worst defensive PF's in the entire league - maybe slightly less terrible than David Lee...maybe. The best side of the court for him is supposed to be his offense, but even on that side of the court he is very inefficient for a PF. His rebounding is elite, and that's something nobody can argue against - but he is far from tier 2 talent. He is Tier 3 talent, if that.
Lets be honest - ihow many people on this forum who would REALLY take Love over Howard or Aldridge? What about the other way around? I think you'll find the numbers are very heavilly skewed against Love.
Love is a skilled player, no doubt. I just don't think that the skill set he posesses it the type of skill set that wins games. He scores a lot of points, yet I don't consider him a dominant scorer. When the game is on the line Love isn't the type of guy I could just pass the ball to and say "make something happen". To be honest, I'd have more trust in Jeff Green with a game on the line than I would with Kevin Love. He's just not that type of player. I think think he'd be an outstanding complimentary player on the right team though. I think he'd work well on a team that has:
* A quality PG
* A go-to scorer at a wing position
* A defensive minded center
For example I think he could really excel in Chicago, where he has Rose is the #1 offensive option and Noah as ther defensive stopper (who can cover for Love's defensive deficiencies). Here Love could be tha deadly #2 scorer who could make teams pay for loading up on Rose.
I don't think Boston is even close to being the best fit for Love.
Firstly, if you have Love you absolutely NEED a defensive stopper at the center spot...and one of our biggest weaknesses right now is our lack of interior defense. That means if we got Love, we'd get absolutely slaughtered inside.
Secondly, if Love came to Boston he would likely become the #1 scoring option...but he's alreadly shown us all fom his time in Minny) that he is entirely incapable of leading a team to wins as the number one guy on offense.
If Boston can get a legit rim protector (who isn't a complete offensive liability) at center, then I'd be all for giving Love a shot. Until then, bringing him here would be a salary cap disaster that would guarantee Boston meiocrity for the next 5 years.
