Hi, first-time/long-time here, so be gentle as I ramble. From what I've seen of the numbers tossed around for Love, he's gotten way overvalued. I'm not saying the guy isn't great, but three, four first-rounders? I don't think so, especially for A) a guy who can't play D and B) someone who's unlikely to sign a long-term deal as part of a sign and trade, since he can get paid better by waiting until the summer to sign.
I'm a season-ticket holder, and frankly, it sucks knowing that we're rebuilding. I hate going to the games and watching the C's lose, and I know that the package we got for Garnett and Pierce, which I believe is just short of grand larceny, will take a few years to pay off. But it will pay off: Brooklyn is going to suck, and we have their 2016, 17 and 18 picks (assuming that we will be better than they are in 17). The only thing that sucks worse than waiting 3-5 years is giving up a huge chunk of that future for a guy who might not be around more than two in an effort to win now, which we can't do, even with Rondo and Love.
I'm okay going after Asik. Heck, I'm okay going after Asik and Love. But what I'm not okay with is trading away the second half of this decade to do so.
I know we've never been a big destination for free agents (when Xavier McDaniel counts as your best free agent signing, you've got issues), but if we had Rondo and, say, Asik (who we couldn't get with the TPE but could get with only one or two future assets), perhaps we could convince a third (and even fourth, given an upcoming increase in the cap) to be willing to come here to win a championship, a la Garnett agreeing to be traded here.
Hey, if we could get Love as part of a S&T for #6, 17 and Sully, I'm all over it. But I don't think that's going to get the job done and, if Love really wants to be in California, he'll just stick it out for a year and let the bidding begin next summer.
