Also, the difference between now and 2007---KG did not tell the Wolves that he was gonna leave...K.Love has, Wolves need to make a deal---they did not have to with KG.
This is not true. KG had an opt out in his contract with the Timberwolves and wanted an extension.

Their owner was unwilling to give KG another big extension when the team wasn't a playoff contender. So in other words KG was going to leave in FA because Minnesota wasn't going to resign him once he opted out of his deal.

I didn't read every post so excuse me if it's been asked...

How do we know that Love didn't say "I'll opt out IF you don't surround me with better talent"?

Also, what money/picks/options do they have to bring in talent? Why do we assume they are going to trade him instead of trading picks and other players to bring in talent? Can they make their team better?

Seems to me that everyone sees it as a forgone conclusion that trading him is the ONLY option.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Well, they owe a future protected pick to Phoenix for a couple more years, so it will be difficult to get much for picks.

But the other issue is that they screwed up when giving Love an extension.  He asked for a five-year extension, but they only wanted to go 4 years.  That ticked him off, and he almost didn't sign one at all, before agreeing to a deal he could get out of after three years.  In that time, they've still managed to miss the playoffs every year.  He's been upset with management since he signed his deal, and the lack of winning hasnt improved matters.  I would be frankly shocked if he's left Minnesota much thought of having the door still open.  He's wanted out for a while now.

I pretty much agree with you. I mean, the Wolves are a LOT closer to competing than us. I think their current roster - when healthy - is good enough to make the playoffs in the West. If they make a move for a wing scorer (I don't know who), and Rubio and Pek continue to improve, they could probably make it to the 2nd round next year.

I think that with Love and a healthy Rondo we're at least as good as Minny is now, bring in some kind of halfway decent center and we're better. Plus he's been in Minny for 6 years. How much talent have they brought in to surround him with?

Not to mention, we are in the East where a 50% winning percentage gets you into the playoffs as a 3-5 seed verus out west where you can be over 500 and still miss the playoffs

The same people dismissing the possibility of us acquiring Love with such genius arguments as "Well he wants to play on the West Coast" or "Other teams have better offers." are the same people that mostly don't like Love to begin with and are using those arguments to shield their bias of not liking the player enough. Then the arguments become "Well he's never led his team to the playoffs and he's not worth the assets". Just strawman arguments.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

While that may or may not be true, such a scenario could be favorable for the Celtics, if Minnesota has a specific player in mind that they want at #6.  I don't think they've gotten that far along in negotiations yet, but I'm glad the Celtics pick one before the Lakers.

That's a little hyperbolic.  A .500 record got you the 8th seed in the East this year.  Yes, Phoenix missed the playoffs with a record that would have tied them for third in the East, but 48-34 doesn't resemble a .500 winning percentage.  The East was not good this year, and typically has been worse over the past half decade at least, but shooting for a .500 record isn't going to get you more than the 8th seed most years.  Sometimes you'll miss the playoffs, sometimes you might get a 7th seed.  But you're not getting 3-5 ever.

I think Love will be traded, just not to us. Cleveland seems to want to win now so I would be surprised if they don't use the number one pick and trump our offer. I am a big Love fan but I don't want to overpay by giving more than 3 first rounders.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I just really don't see it. Such a massive gamble. If they are willing to though, Sota would be dumb to turn that down.

Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Don't care much for K-Love. I'm just hoping for Dwightmare part deux in lala-land.

They won't make that trade unless Love agrees to stay there for the long term, and they might not offer the first pick anyways. People are listing teams that can make better offers than us, but that may as well start with Miami and OKC, who could offer LeBron or Durant. But just because a team *can* offer more than us doesn't mean that they *will* offer more than us.
