Rondo is not a franchise player and does not have the potential to be one.

But Michael Carter-Williams and Nerlens Noel do?

The comment by Rondo9 was in response to a post claiming that the Sixers have two potential franchise players.  I know you aren't the one who made that claim, though.

I made the original comment.  I guess I have to spell it out.  Nerlens Noel and Jabari Parker are both potential franchise players. Those are elite prospects.  Noel's got Anthony Davis potential. Parker has Carmelo Anthony potential. I wasn't even referring to MKW who for all we know will be a rich man's Rajon rondo.  The future in Philly is brighter than the sun ... in theory at least.

  The odds of either of those players being franchise players are pretty low. The future in Philly's a lot brighter in theory than it is in reality.

The odds that Nerlens Noel ends up being a franchise player is higher than our #6 pick becoming a franchise player... which is why most fans in this thread are on board with this ridiculous trade idea... and why Philly wouldn't do it. 

Noel is an elite-level prospect.  He has a shot to be a dominant defensive presence.  It's not a guarantee.

I guess I'm confused about what you mean by the term "franchise player."  At the beginning of this season, you were adamant that there were 7 or 8 franchise players in this draft.  Now that we are going to get one of those players, you've backed it down to 4 franchise players.

I'm starting to think that by potential "franchise player" you mean any decent young prospect who is not a Celtic.

If Philly drafts Embiid, and the Celtics draft Vonleh, I think that Danny should call to see if a trade of Vonleh for Noel would be possible. Vonleh has a (raw and still developing) outside game, and a lot of potential on the defensive end. They may complement each other than a Embiid/Noel tandem who both play pretty close to the basket, and are both technically Centers. I see a Detroit situation with the two of them where the post gets too crowded.

As far as a trade goes I think that Vonleh for Noel would be decent deal for both sides. Both have tremendous potential, and it is essentially a 6th pick for a 6th pick so the money is the same.

Every year top picks are billed as "once in a generation" Elite players. But how many actually reach that point? Noel will likely never be a huge offensive threat. I don't see him ever averaging more than 18 ppg, but I see him being a 13+ rpg player with elite defense. With Vonleh, I can see him being a 20/11 guy with elite defense.

But this would hinge on the Sixers getting Embiid and the Celtics getting Vonleh.

If Noel really is worth a top 6 pick this draft, from what I've heard about this draft, the 6ers got a steal with that Jrue Holiday trade.

But from what I've heard about Noel and the 2013 draft, he's a step below a top 6 pick this draft.

As others have said, I can't imagine Philly deals Noel now. There are much worse things you can have in the NBA than two good, young centers, and that's assuming the Sixers get Embiid to begin with.

At the very least (assuming they draft Embiid), I imagine they hold onto both for a season or two to see what they have. And I also see or reason why you can't play them both together at the 4/5. They are both pretty athletic guys.

My point was not that they could not be played together, only that in a very specific scenario, the Sixers could trade one very athletic big man for another that would be a better fit at a different natural position, and complementary skillset.

IMO, Nerlen Noels may not have been a top 5 pick this year coming out of college healthy because he does not have the offensive game that other guys have. He is sort like the Aaron Gordon of centers for next year's rookies. But he will be a solid Center in this league. I don't really see him as a future all-star if he does not develop a better offensive game than what he showed in college. And some guys improve hugely on their shots and shot selection, while others simply just do not have it. Regardless of how athletic they are.
