I think this ends up being a very eventful summer for the Cs.

I think DA makes a couple big moves which will tip the scales in whether we return to being competitive next season or further immerse ourselves in what ends up being a long, tiring rebuild.

Furthermore, I think DA and Wyc make the conscious decision to stick with Rondo for the long-term and build around him.  Though many including myself have thrown out many Rondo trade ideas, I think at the end of the day Ainge comes to the conclusion that there just isn't a mutually feasible Rondo trade out there for both parties.

Therefore, the decision is made to bring in a coupled veterans to pair up with Rondo and go for banner 18 next season.

DA brings in Josh Smith and Rudy Gay (Rondo's 2 buddies.)

He deals Jeff Green, Brandon Bass and Avery Bradley (ST as Avery is a RFA) to Sacramento for Rudy Gay and Jason Thompson

Then, he deals Gerald Wallace, Jared Sullinger and the 2015 Clippers pick to Detroit for Josh Smith.

He keeps both no 1 picks for 2014 and selects Marcus Smart with the Celts pick and Kyle Andreson with the Nets pick.

He also resigns Jerryd Bayless and Kris Humphries for depth at the 2 and 4.

He's our opening night lineup

PG-Rondo/Pressey/Smart
SG-Bayless/Smart/Johnson
SF-Gay/Andersen
PF-Josh Smith/Humphries/Olynyk
C-Thompson/Faverani

Sorry but we will never go anywhere with the lineup you propose. Gay and smith are losers. They know how to pad stats and help you win in the regular season but you will go nowhere after. Look at Torontos improvement when gay was traded and atlanta didnt even get affted with the loss of smith.

The amount of salary the team takes on should = reaching at least finals. But the team likely doesnt get past the 1st.

Agree to disagree. Personally, I like that lineup.

And the cherry on the icing would be the Celts bring Paul Pierce back with the MLE to be a 6th man and provide some leadership and stability.

On a big draft night deal, he trades Gerald Wallace, Jared Sullinger and the 2015 Clippers pick to Detroit for Josh Smith.

Also, both Smoove and Gay have very successful years in Boston next season. Celts make it to the playoffs.

Rondo and Rudy are then resigned to long-term deals in Boston during the summer of 2015.

You heard it here first ;D

I'm on board with Rudy Gay and Jason Thompson coming to Boston. But Thompson has to be our 3rd big. If he's starting as our Center, we are asking for trouble.

Rudy Gay to me is a great 2nd or third option on offense. When his role got reduced from the guy who needs to take the shots to the guy gets to his spots, he became efficient. He's still a 20 ppg scorer in this league and when engaged, he can defend.

The problem is, that's $19 million + how much Thompson is making. A lot of money to make salaries match. And I'm not sure if SacTo would be willing to take role players on extended contracts.

Gay and smith have no conscious when shooting the ball. They will go 6 for 20, 5 for 15 . You think you can pigeon hole them to be 2nd or 3rd options??

Thats why they r losers.

I think the salaries could work. In addition to J. Green, Bass, and a S/T of Avery, maybe the Celts end up having to throw in another salary like Bogans or J. Anthony to make the salaries match with Sacramento. But I think it could work.

PG - Rondo
SG - Jeff Green
SF - Sully
PF - K.O.
C - Embiid

Bench:

PG - Pressey/Free Agent
SG - Bayless/N. Stauskas/C. Johnson
SF/PF - G. Wallace/C. Babb/Free Agent
C - Vitor Faverani/J. Anthony

awful line-up

And there is pretty much no way Bayless would be ahead of Stauskas in the rotation.

I think that's a problem in itself. To me that description means that Rondo is the best player on the team and you're adding pieces around him to become a title contender. Fact is, Rondo is a good player, but simply isn't good enough to be the central figure of a team. It's great if he's your 3rd best player, good if he's your 2nd best, and bad if he's your best player. The player that we will truly "build around" is not yet on our roster and, depending on our lottery luck, could be on the team in June.

The problem with that line up is the lack of shooters. It would be the worst shooting team in the NBA. Smith and Gay are very high usage players whilst Stevens offense revolves around moving the ball and attacking specific weaknesses in opponents defenses.

I wouldn't wanna move Sully just to dump Wallace's contract for Josh Smith.
I think Sully projects to be a better player than Smith eventually (if he can control his weight) and I'd rather use the stretch provision on Wallace's contract than move Sully.

Sully's our best trade asset as a player other than Rondo, and to just get back Josh Smith for him would be disappointing.(Even though we do move Wallace in your suggestion).

Good creativity I just think we'd throw up more bricks than this years team.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
