Someone please tell me how Rondo helps Rockets. They need depth, better defense and scoring balance. They lose defense with Asik and offense with Parsons.

Asik doesn't play any defense when he's sitting on the bench. And getting paid $15 million to sit on the bench is an awfully expensive luxury.

Now if they want to make a Green for Parsons switch, I will definitely listen.

I think history has shown that the team who gets the best player in a deal, is the"winner" so to speak. Rondo is an all-star and a champion. I would never do this trade.

Rondo may very well be an All-Star and a champion on some other team after next summer, unless the Celtics give him good reason to stick around.

I wouldn't be thrilled about trading Rondo for Jeremy lin and filler.  I'd hope we could get something better for him.  I do like Parsons, but the rumor was that Houston refused to give him up.  Doubt we trade Rondo at this point, but I wouldn't use arguments like "he's a champion and all-star" as my reasoning for keeping him.  His all-star days might be behind him... and he was merely a role player on that title team.  No guarantee he'd be the best player in a trade.

Me?  I'd shop him this summer and trade him for the best offer I got.  I would rather not go into next season with that distraction.  I want to head forward without having the huge Rondo question mark hanging over the team.  Ideally, some team in the top 10 would offer their pick plus other useful players for Rondo.

First, though, I'd kick the tires on Kevin Love / Carmelo Anthony / Marc Gasol etc.  If I could get one of those guys this summer, then obviously that changes things.  I assume that won't be on the table, though.  I think Love and Melo will want to go to a team that's already got a winning group in place.  They'll want to "put a team over the top" when they join it.

It's inevitable that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey will likewise check in with his old boss Danny Ainge in Boston -- as he did before the trade deadline in February -? just to make sure Rajon Rondo isn?t suddenly available.

Probably a "due diligence" call. Although it's interesting to hear that Morey made a similar call before the deadline.

It's unsurprising to find out that Morey called a team about a player who was rumored to be available.  He's an active GM who works the phones.

It is certainly implied that Rondo was unavailable when Morey called at the trade deadline and any phone call would be just to check and see if anything has changed.

People should care more about whether Rondo can be an "allstar and a champion" here than about whether he will or will not be an allstar and a champion on some other team.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't get all the fuss about Chandler Parsons. Trading Rondo for him (and Lin and a late first round pick)?  No way I do that deal.  Parsons's has good numbers because who else is going to score for Houston after Harden?  I absolutely hate Parsons' 3 point shot, it is flat, off balance.  He does some decent things, obviously a valuable contract, and playing way better than a second round pick. But is he a guy you trade your best player, an all-star, for? Is he a guy you use to build a championship team?

No.  He isn't.

I'm still not convinced Houston would be interested in Rondo. I'm not sure who Stein's sources are but it doesn't seem like a good fit. Sometimes I wonder if Morey and Ainge aren't just doing each other favors by hyping their players in trade rumors to stir up interest and drive up value. I expect Houston to go after Melo first and foremost. Where Rondo may rank as a target in their backup plans is uncertain. Their primary concern still has to be to bring in a scorer opposite Harden, and Rondo doesn't really help with that. Furthermore Rondo does not help hide Harden's horrible D in the backcourt.

No.  He isn't.

I'm not saying that's a good deal for Rondo (I think we could get more for him) but that isn't as bad as some other deals. Lin cops a ridiculously high amount of unfair criticism for a guy who is a solid PG. Setting career highs in all of the traditional shooting areas. Parsons is a very decent player. Not a guy who springs to mind when you think of trading your star player. You're acting as if it's a straight up swap though.

I care about it, because to me the worst case scenario is that the team takes some half-measures this summer to try to improve with an eye toward building a team that fits Rondo, and then Rondo leaves in free agency with the Celtics getting nothing in return.

Personally I like Parsons, but I agree that Parsons and the #25 pick in this draft is a rather tepid return for Rondo.  I'd hope that we can do better than that.  I know that the Celtics would also get Lin and Asik, but for all intents and purposes they'd just be expirings since neither would figure into the long-term plans here.
