It's inevitable that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey will likewise check in with his old boss Danny Ainge in Boston -- as he did before the trade deadline in February -? just to make sure Rajon Rondo isn?t suddenly available.

Probably a "due diligence" call. Although it's interesting to hear that Morey made a similar call before the deadline.

Rondo would be a good fit for the Rockets, but they are bad trade partners...Unless anyone  here is a huge Parsons guy.

Its simply due diligence. Most if not every GM is probably and has probably called on Rondo at one point in time or another over the last 4 years. My guess is the calls go something like this:

Danny: Hello

Other GM: Het Danny! Its _______________

Danny: Oh hey, what's up?

Other GM: Is Rondo available.

Danny: Depends. Are you offering me just one player that is better than Rondo?

Other GM: No. I just have a couple guys who's salary matches Rondo's.

Danny: Then no. He's not available.

Other GM: Okay, thanks,

Get a third team involved in which we get a good draft pick this year and parsons, then maybe I'll listen

Probably every team who called about Rondo at the deadline will be calling again.

He played worse than expected, they know it's probably not permanent, and they're hoping Danny can be duped into lowering his asking price.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Danny: How about Lin + Asik's expiring and Parsons for Rondo and Green.

Other GM: Okay.  I'll think about it.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I like Parsons, but he definitely isn't [alone] worth Rondo. We have one all-star caliber player. The additional plus is he could be a real draw for another all-star. If we trade him for Parsons, we are just making ourselves worse.

Now if they want to make a Green for Parsons switch, I will definitely listen.

5 years later and still calling for a Rondo trade and think Ainge is actually shopping him, huh LB? How many deadlines have to pass with Rondo on this team and how many seasons have to start with Rondo on this team before it sinks in that your idea that Ainge is constantly shopping Rondo is a fantasy?

No way Ainge makes that trade you just "fixed" my post with. None whatsoever.

Definitely not a fantasy.  Rondo has been available for years.  Nobody has been willing to give up anything for him, though.  Ainge wouldn't have just traded him for the sake of trading him.

I don't think he'll be traded this offseason.  Doubt anyone will offer anything worthwhile.  I think we'll keep him until he's a free agent.

I wonder if the Spurs would take Rondo for Tony Parker?

Agreed. He played poorly post-injury. Not going to get anything for him now.

Asik and Parson for Rondo and Bass.

We all saw what Simmons said about this last month:

Quote
Here?s the problem with trading Rondo ? he?s never re-signing in Sacramento, Detroit, Milwaukee, Cleveland or wherever. None of those teams are overpaying to rent Rondo for a year. Boston?s best chance on decent value: If Houston flames out in Round 1, maybe send Rondo there for Jeremy Lin?s expiring deal, Chandler Parsons and Houston?s first-rounder. I can?t see them doing better, especially with how Rondo has looked lately ? he?s been their best tanking asset down the stretch, hands down. Nobody else comes close. ****ty attitude, sloppy ballhandling, horrific defense, inexplicable decision-making, ugly shooting ? he?s doing it all. Down the stretch, it?s like he studied tape of the game Tony threw in Blue Chips, then said, ?I?m gonna throw in Brandon Jennings?s shot selection for good measure.? If we get the no. 1 pick, they should retire Rondo?s number next October.
