Probably scouting Walter Tavares, the 7-2 C born in Cabo Verde island (plays for Herbalife Gran Canaria). Tavares is huge but seems a bit soft... Could he become a serviceable shotblocker in the NBA?

I'd love to see both the Cape Verdean kid (my wife's family is from there) and the Danish kid (I was born there) get drafted and make it to the NBA.  It would be doubly cool if one of them ended up as a Celtic.

Danny, trade for a second rounder and pick up either Taveras or Larsen.

Looks like half the NBA was there with him.

I wonder if they socialize together in the evening--or just go back to their rooms on their own.

Are they allowed to talk to these kids while they are over there?

My guess is, probably not.

good question. while for US universities there are mountains of rules from the NCAA, i dont know of any obvious reasons for the NBA to not speak with professionals in europe - save to prevent tampering perhaps.
does anyone here know?

Found this, but it's a little confusing.

While it states that there are no tampering provisions regarding future employment, it seems to prohibit teams from wooing someone to leave to play now, while still under contract. That's how I read it, but could be wrong.:

First time poster from Gran Canaria (formerly United Kingdom), thought I'd chip in on this one.

I've seen Tavares a couple of times live and watched a lot of footage... I would be a bit uncomfortable on using even a late second on Tavares. While his stats this year have looked impressive, it has to be taken in the context of the competition he's playing against. GC is not a major force in Spanish basketball at the moment and I think his inexperience would be badly found out in the NBA.

The best case scenario for Tavares would be a Manute Bol type of player - although with good coaching could become a little bit more than nuisance value at the rim.

I watched a lot of tape of him recently, and reached a similar conclusion.  I think he is too raw and risky.  Doubt we take a flyer on him unless he get a late 2nd round pick to gamble.

Unfortunately I dont think that Larsen is going to get drafted, due to the fact that he is very raw. I've played against him multiple times before, and he just seems to "fade" away and disappear in some games. This guy is freakish tall and definitely has talent, but he isnt NBA ready yet.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

Dude is huge and mobile.. And clueless. Kinda reminds me of someone we drafted 2012. No thanks.

Just posted this article: http://www.celticsblog.com/2014/5/3/5674020/scouting-spain-which-international-players-could-the-boston-celtics-draft-porzingis-tavares-scouting

Thanks for the heads up on the link, Global Celtic.
Thanks for the link and many thanks for the article.  it was very informative and well, written. Great stuff and a tp.

If the celtics can get an early second round pick they might be able to get a serviceable player from this group.
