I am concerned that Danny will trade our lottery pick for a veteran, given the incubation period it takes for young uns to be able to contribute, and the desire to rebuild with Rondo fast.   This philosophy resulted in the trade of rookie Joe Johnson for Rogers and Delk. ( Thank you Chris Wallace.)   I hope that Danny doesn't apply the "Doc Rivers view" of rookies (only thing good about rookies is that they eventually are no longer rookies).   Danny did this when he traded pick 5 for Ray Allen (yes, that worked out) and gave up pick 6 for Sebastian Telfair. Could have gotten Rudy Gay or Brandon Roy (pre-injury, of course) instead.  (I know, we got Ratliff expiring contract that enabled the KG deal.)

I have a gut feeling that Danny's market value of some of these top guys, like Wiggens, is lower than some other GM's, and that we are going to end up without a lottery pick on draft night.  And since there are no KG types in the horizon, I really hope we don't.

Totally disagree. I hardly see any franchise type players in this draft and if there are any, they will not fall to the Celtics.

I am all for Ainge cashing in to return to relevance next season.

This year, I've barely watched any games and as a fan, I don't want that to continue.

I appreciate the other POV.  But I would prefer drafting two future starters, and making a splash next year when the FA marketplace is more vigorous.  Am not keen on putting together a package that would land us Kevin Love, for example, if we lose Joe Embiid or Wiggins in the process.  No thank you.  We have to remember that 2007 was a once in a life time opportunity because Kevin Garnett is a once in a life time talent.  Is there any player who comes even close to what he brings on both ends of the court that would be available in a trade of our lottery pick?  No.

What if Wiggins/Embiid/Parker becomes the superstars of the next generation and we're getting bounced in the conference semi-finals every year with Kevin Love and Rondo? I rather not take that chance.

Be patient and let the rooks play.

Depending on the veteran, I have no problem trading the C's first pick, even if its the #1 pick. If you could get a Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, DeMarcus Cousins, Roy Hibbert type big man or a star the caliber of Melo for salary filler and the lottery pick, you gotta do it.

But most of those type players won't be available.

Greg Monroe might be available but I am not sure he is the type center you want around Sully and KO and he is definitely NOT worth a top 3 pick. If its pick number 6 or 7, then yeah, I would think about it.

I wouldn't be so sure about the answer to your last question

Also, I fail to see what Wiggins or Embiid has done to not want to trade them for one of the league's best players in Kevin Love.

I might also add that Kevin Love is as close a player to Kevin Garnett as you'll find in the league right now.

Embiid and Wiggins could be every bit as reminiscent of Greg Oden as they could be of Kevin Durant.

This would assume that Sullinger and Olynyk are untouchable. I am not so sure they are. At least Olynyk shouldn't be.

^This is from 'Big Al the Future.'

We'd have been waiting a looooooooong time for Big Al to lead us to a championship. Same will be true if we wait for Embiid/Wiggins/Parker to become a superstar.

Also, Kevin Love is very similar to KG in that he is an elite player at one end of the floor and fairly mediocre at the other. KG is obviously a better player if you take his whole career into account (and his offense was elite when he was younger) but KG was 30 when we acquired him, while Love is only 25.

Happily move any pick, including the top 1, for Love, et al. as posted above.

This franchise does not deal in hope. It deals in winning basketball games. Hope is for the dregs of the NBA, not the Boston Celtics.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

So when Wiggins is winning MVP's and Love is winning titles for the Lakers you can say "well at least we had Love for one year"

I think "fairly mediocre" is the nicest thing I've ever heard anyone say about Kevin Love's defense.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

wiggins, Embiid, and Parker are obviously far superior prospects than Big Al. And will most likely be a lot better players as well. Weird comparison.

30 year old KG > 25 year old Love.

Love and Rondo will not lead us to contention, and we don't have pieces to get a third star. Rather take my chances on Wiggins

If any of Wiggins/Embiid/Parker are destined to play for and win a title, then the historical trends suggest that they are far more likely to do so on a team other than the one that drafted them.

So, the trick is to be in position to trade for them in a few years when they are too expensive for their small market team to keep.

Just because we may not pick a player out of this draft doesn't mean they won't end up as a Celtic one day.  And just because we do pick one doesn't mean he'll stay in green.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.
