Gasol keeps missing games with Vertigo and the Lakers are neck and neck with us for ping pong balls.  I don't think I've ever heard of a player missing a slate of games with Vertigo before and here is a tidbit on the "diagnosis:"

An MRI was performed on Gasol's head and did not produce any signs of a concussion or other significant head injury. The Lakers will likely perform additional tests to pinpoint the exact cause of Gasol's vertigo and begin the necessary treatment protocol. If the symptoms subside, the center will be allowed to return, but his availability for this week remains unknown.

Hmmmmmmmm.  I can't think of a more obscure reason for holding out a key player during the end of a season on a tanking team.  I think Milwaukee was bad holding out half their team including Michael Redd with the same knee injury a few years ago, but I think this has to be #1.  If the Lakers needed Gasol to play, I'm sure he'd be out there.

Just would like to add that Michael Redd's knee injury completely destroyed his career, so I'm not sure that was "tanking" as much as it was, you know, a "career ending injury."

HAHAHAHAHAHA this is probably the funniest thing I've seen in awhile.

Lakers beat the Suns and LA higherups start to get antsy and come up with fake injuries.

They should pay Jeff Green and Sullinger to sit in a cave for the next 3 weeks and just say they both spontaneously combust

Um, I don't think you can see concussions on MRIs. Which is part of why they're so hard to diagnose.

As someone who's experienced recurrent bouts of benign positional vertigo, I can assure you that it's very real, and there's no way anyone with vertigo could possibly play basketball. I could barely walk a straight line, and I had a mild case.

You can dispute whether Gasol really is suffering from vertigo, but not its effects.

I am reminded of former Cincinnati and Boston first baseman Nick Esasky, who was forced to retire after only a few games into a big contract with the Atlanta Braves due to vertigo.

I'm going to assume that this is legitimate.

I agree with Lucky.  I have been suffering from vertigo for about three weeks (just now getting over it).  I was unable to stand and walk on my own, was so "sea sick" that I couldn't keep anything, even water, down.  I fell twice, hitting my head each time...they don't know if that was a result of, or a cause of, the vertigo.  It is no joke...you  really are incapacitated.

It may be a manufactured excuse for Gasol, but if true, he would have trouble playing, for sure.

I agree with Lucky and thirsty.

All it takes is one wrong spin in the dentist's chair for my wife and she could be out of it for weeks.

Also, that certain desirable physiological response to coitus has been known to trigger it.
(Or maybe that's a whole other message being sent?)

Anyway, to answer the question of the OP, maybe Rondo can come down with damaged vocal chords tonight when he does the color,  if he takes Tommy's advice of getting his voice more "gravelly". If that happens he certainly can't lead the offense or communicate on D. Those damaged vocal chords can be a real female dog.

Look Doc / DA used to make up stories why KG and Paul couldn't play to rest them.

Why not do Do the same for Rondo and Sully

All th teams are resting players for one reason or the other......either for playoffs  or their tanking

So what the diff ?   It's to better the team to win a title ....one is short haul , other long haul.

I don't see the issue or drama at this point in the season to play to loose ......meaning hold players out , very low minutes or no minutes for good players .

Lakers are blatantly tanking ,  Mitch isn't 't hiding it,  they are going to take FULL advantage of the NBA draft system...... Kobe knows the score........how important the picks could be.

One win might be cause of losing a player that would have made a huge diff......why squander any opportunity away .

To do less ...especially with so few games remaining just makes ZERO sense,

UNO, DOS, TRES, CATORCE!

Seriously, head injuries are legitimate. What I'd be questioning is Kaman not playing at all, then coming back when Gasol was hurt and contributing to two wins, then playing only 6 minutes in a T'Wolves blowout loss, complaining about it to D'Antoni, and coming back and putting up huge numbers in a Phoenix win the next game.

You know, kind of like Kris Humphries' situation on the Celts this year!  ;D

TP. Tanking stinks. The rest Rondo on a back to back is a little eyebrow raising too. But i will take it. Just gotta hang in for 9 more games.

Keep on tanking. We are almost there.....

rondo can come down with severe jock itch, hump can get dizziness, green can get food allegies, Ab can get plantar fascitis, sully can get some arthritic pain in his back and that should do it. and guarantee us a top 5 pick, maybe even 3!
LET'S GO CELTICS!

If you've ever been drunk and had 'the spins', that is what my episode of vertigo felt like.   Mine was migraine-related.  My migraines are often associated with interesting neurological phenomena.  No, I couldn't have gotten to my car, never mind drive and play basketball.

But, the issue really isn't whether or not someone should/could play with vertigo.  The issue is whether or not Gasol really has vertigo.

Vertigo is a great 'tank injury' since the anyone can say they have it, it can last a good while, and it really can't be disproven.
